I saw The Hangover last night. There were a few funny bits (i.e. the Chinese gangster), but for the most part I just found the whole thing offensive. Trying to make a convicted rapist, Mike Tyson, out to be some kind of cool, misunderstood hero really leaves a bad taste in the mouth. And why do movies always make out that Vegas is the city of dreams. It's sin city. It's tacky. All surface and no substance. And since when has violence to a baby ever been funny? We are supposed to laugh at someone (admittedly by accident) bashing a car door into a baby's face.
This piece of garbage currently has an average rating on iMDB of 8.5 and sits at 131 in the top 250. How the hell did that happen? Has society seriously sunk so low that a film like The Hangover can be accepted as first class entertainment?
Judd Apatow's comedies often push it close to the edge but at least his characters usually learn something and have their hearts in the right place. The four main characters in this are all completely lacking a moral compass and, quite frankly, I would be ashamed if I really knew guys like these in real life.

I'm not sure if this is a joke thread ("I'll pretend to be a Daily Mail reader with no sense of humour who went to see a comedy"), but The Hangover is fucking brilliant. I've seen it twice so far, and look forward to seeing it again. "I've found a baby before" cracks me up every time I think of it.

I dont want to write too much as I'd have to stop most people reading this by putting *spoiler* before writing.
Seriously though this was one of the funniest films i'd seen in ages. And I was giggling about the baby knocking off at the table for days.
At what point was Tyson made out to be a hero?! He has a bit-part and plays it pretty well. Rapist or not. And who gives a shyte that the characters didnt go on some moral fact finding mission, resulting in a completely different film. Although they did didnt they, just not to the extent of Disney spunkfest High School Musical standards.
Vegas is hardly made out to be the city of dreams, did you like Oceans 11?

I saw The Hangover last night. I thought it was good. It certainly shouldn't be in the top 250... I can see why it is though. A lot of Americans are going to love it. It was very funny at times... the baby bashing one out was funny.. not because of the image, but because of how funny "Fat jesus" found it.. ha ha. The was pretty much the only good character... his little "Pack of wolves" speech was great! Enjoyable and very funny at times. Just not funny enough for me. The guy with the glasses learnt something didn't he?! That his girlfriend was an idiot! That was a great bit. The ending was great too... good idea. Some of the funniest bits were just from the photos though. So yeah... its an okay film.

It's funny then? Funny that as the trailers make it look painfully unfunny.

... the baby bashing one out was funny.. WTF!?!? I'm more than happy to read spoilers about this film, because I will never pay to see it.... and even if it was free to watch it, I would probably choose to pay to see almost anything else if I could.

Yeah I hated the trailer too. It basically shows all the worst parts.
Let me explain Dave... it wasn't a baby bashing one out. It was Alan (the only funny character in the film) making it look like the baby was. Not funny, but because HE found it funny I found him funny finding it funny.
This was the best bit:

This was the best bit: Okay, I'm genuinely not trying to be awkward here, but which bit of that clip was the funny bit? These Judd Apatow style films really are not for me it seems. I'm guessing it's the, "I didn't know they gave out rings at the..... " etc, bit. Hmmm.... so he's the dumb character. I wouldn't be surprised if the breast feeding at the end leads to some hilarious squirting moment?

I wouldn't be surprised if the breast feeding at the end leads to some hilarious squirting moment? It really doesn't, its a very tame scene. The baby whacking off was funny, although as Ryd said, your laughing at them laughing at the baby laughing at Alan finding it funny, which in turn makes you laugh. Its hard to describe, funny though. Its certainly not as blatantly crass as you might think, Todd Phillips did a good job.

Read this today about Todd Phillips the director...
"Phillips is on track to earn $35 million or more on “The Hangover” after he gave back his salary and gross position to become an equity investment partner in the pic. Move allowed him to make the film with Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms, who were not proven at the box office. Phillips never wagered as smartly as he did on “The Hangover.” Because he insisted on his cast, WB Pictures Group prexy Jeff Robinov gave him a budget ceiling of $34 million, and the only way Phillips could make that number was to work for scale and use salary and gross to buy his way into being an equity investor"
Smooth move Mr Phillips!!!

I thought The Hangover was a bit funny but not as funny as a lot of friends had made out. Definitely doesn't deserve to be in the imdb top 250!

Loads of popular films go into the IMDB top 250 when they come out - it's a meaningless popularity contest.
