I've seen the documentary - was treated to a "preview" before Christmas (it was made by filmmaker Jake West and Marc Morris, who is a good friend of mine). The Flipside is a great, great label and really deserves our support. I would like to think I know quite a lot about British cinema of the 60s and 70s but a lot of the titles the BFI are putting out through Flipside I had either never seen or in some cases, never heard of. I've found that it has become a "discovery" label for me, where I will literally buy anything that's put out simply because it's going to be interesting at the very least. Although I have all the Flipside Blu-rays that have been released so far (with the exception of the two docos that lift the lid on the seamier side of London), I've only gotten around to watching two of them: Richard Lester's THE BED SITTING ROOM (proper crazy shit. Very surreal and out there) and Gerry O'Hara's ALL THE RIGHT NOISES (a great character-driven drama that I reckon most Meadows fans with a penchant for 60s kitchen sink will really dig). I must get my arse in gear and watch the others - the Pete Walker doublebill (MAN OF VIOLENCE and THE BIG SWITCH) is one that's hovering close to the top of my "to watch" pile. What's great about Marc and Jake's documentary is that they have gotten Kim Newman to really go all-out to explain where these films came from and the reaction to them at the time of release. It's really good and I’m quite sure that when you’ve seen it you’ll be looking to get your hands on some of these titles.
I’ve not seen any of the short films that are included on this disc, so cannot count on them but at the price this really is a no-brainer.
