This is a short horror I made with my mates last year for my AS Film Studies Coursework. Thought I would share it on here to spread it around a bit. Would love to hear your thoughts and stuff. Enjoy.
If your also interested, I just finished my first ever showreel which I'll be presenting to my uni's of choice in a few months. It plays more like a music video to be honest...I'm thinking of re-opening the edit and extending the snippets a bit in order to show a bit more narrative rather then just cutting to music. Again, your comments are also appreciated heavily!

I liked it, nice editing and colour composition...... although couldn't work out why someone would write 'Wake up' on a whiteboard, for the attention of someone who is unconscious? Nice one though!

cheers! I do agree with the "Wake Up" writing being a bit out of place but it was merely to let the whole film come circle in the most subtle way possible, linking the ending with the begining ect. thanks for watching!

hehe, just wanted to play around with those white balance settings. it was more down to how we shot it in March, right after classes finished-so at 3:45pm we really didn't have the darkness we required...especially with that huge gaping ceiling window in the middle of the corridor!

That was a pretty nice little film.
The atmosphere was really good!
There was one shot... the legs running down the corridor... that really looked just like that Squarepusher video... Come On My Selector. Have you seen it?

jesus christ!!! I wish my AS coursework was of that quality, to be honest I'm not sure many of the films produced at my uni were!
camera work and the grade was great, everything cut together nicely, the sound design added a HELL of a lot to the production value. only thing I could really say picking holes is the production design could have used a little more attention to detail, thicker scribble on the board, lose those horrible blue chairs and pick a bigger more powerful torch, but as I say just picking holes.
The best thing though was it was SHORT!!!!! I didn't really think too much of the story but as a showcase of talent it did what it had to do.
as for the showreel I would say it needs to be a lot shorter, pick only the very very best of your shots and try and fit it all inside a minute or less, quality not quantity, however I'm currently trying to cut my first showreel together to music right now myself and have spent 12hrs so far animating my name so maybe not the best person to be trying to give advice.

woah, what an awesome comment! cheers mate. I agree 100% with the production design issues. The blue chairs make me cringe to this day!
With the showreel, ironically the univerisites I have to present it to require a 5 Minute showreel..meaning I would have to extend it just a bit regardless. But as a showreel itself it would of course have to be shorter. Will look into those DVD's...cheers mate!

I've applied to The Arts University College of Bournemouth (Film Production- thats my first choice-got an interview for that in March) as well as Bournemouth University (Film Production and Cinematography-interview next month) New Buckinghimshire (film and tv production-conditional offer) and Winchester University (just a back-up tbh). As you've noticed there all out of London but just within arms reach. I felt that although London is obviously the hot spot for film...uni would be three years and seeing as I've lived in London my whole life so it would be great to get out of there and see a bit more of England, as well meet new people and do the whole independent thing. What I see happening to me is that I'll end up specialising in film editing during my third year, as I see that as a great entry into the industry in terms of both networking and finance. I've also edited since I was 12 so it's something that's important to me, but at the same time something I want to eventually morph into directing (so editing and directing) which I get huge delight out of. Gives me a bit of buzz. All I know is that I want to try my hand at everything-get a true manual respect for everyones job on set so I don't feel awkward or apprehensive when directing them. But yeah, it'll be a very interesting three years if I get in.
