I ran an a Q&A event with Mr Loach yesterday along with a preview screening of his new film Route, Irish. I didn't get to see the film, but it seems to be about post-traumatic stress disorder, specifically in troops returning from service in Iraq and trying to re-adjust back to normal society.
I got to have a little chat with Mr Loach (mostly about how we were screening the film), but I also mentioned that I had previewed one of his films before, My Name Is Joe, and I had talked to him then too.... depressingly we realised it was 13 years ago!
Anyway, just as I remembered him last time, he's ultra polite and quietly spoken, and it's weird imagining him directing such hard-hitting stuff... but he sure can!

I fucking dream of working with a British director like him.
His whole stance on todays world is so reflective of my own.. his ability to conjour up the magic in film that he does..

Dave, if you ever see KL again, ask him when he's going to do a comedy, will ya? After that wall to wall Eric Cantona mask scene? Only joshing, Loach is brilliant. I didn't reply to this thread because I'm jealous Dave got to meet him (again). Looking forward to Route Irish-soon hopefully.

The Q&A is now online, but it's probably a bit spoilery if you haven't seen Route Irish... and who has? Is it even out yet? just noticed it is and we've been showing it at work since Friday... but I've been off using up last few days of holiday before April comes around so I was totally oblivious to it. ;D www.dshed.net/ken-loach-and-mark-womack-route-irish-qaI didn't film this one, so no complaints to me thankyou! I was Mr Mixing Desk.

Got to see Route Irish tonight. Just started to watch the Q and A, but a bit too tired for 44 minutes now, so will watch it tomorrow. Be interested to hear about the inspiration and research-was curious about whether the film's based on , or inspired by, a real life event (although the film's ending obviously isn't)
Is David Goldblatt connected to the Watershed in anyway? Just curious-I met him a few years back when he was working for the O.U.

Is David Goldblatt connected to the Watershed in anyway? Just curious-I met him a few years back when he was working for the O.U. He doesn't work here, but he does seem to host a few events every now and again, so I think he is one of the Watershed go-to guys. He does a yearly thing here with school kids, showing them old sports related clips and then chats about it and gets them to write commentary for the clips and stuff. Not sure what it's all in aid of.
