Firstly, my name is Ben and I've just joined this forum.
I'm a big fan of Shane's work - Dead Man's Shoes, A Room for Romeo Brass and This is England, both the original film and last year's 1986 continuation, were superb examples of emotionally involving drama about real people (they felt real to me).
I'm very excited about the forthcoming 1988 series.
Secondly, and apologies for being very cheeky here, but does anybody know how I could possibly get in touch with Mr Meadows? I'm currently a student in my final year at Grimsby College (you've got to love Grimsby!) doing a BA Professional Writing Degree. An upcoming assignment requires us to give a lengthy presentation 'reflecting' on our 'journeys' as writers. We've been encouraged to source primary research and attempt to speak to writers we admire and who influence us about their working practices, their typical routines, their approach to characterisation, etc.
I know Shane will almost certainly be too busy, but I thought if there was even the smallest chance of talking to him, then this message was worth a stab.
Regards,
Ben

Hi Ben welcome to the forum,
there's a chance Shane could reply to you here but as you say... best best is contacting his agent which you can find on google.
when you say encouraged to source primary research does that mean it doesn't have to be primary?
as much as you want to use Shane Meadows I would personally go with someone who's exclusively a screenwriter, that way every interview you read will be solely about screenwriting.
you should check out the creative screenwriting magazine podcast its no longer going on but they've got a massive back catalog of really in depth interviews with screenwriters
you'll find this useful as well
can you not just take advice from here there and everywhere and get great quotes etc. etc.
If I was in your shoes I'd be tempted to reasearch jimmy mcgovern

and apologies for being very cheeky here, Hi Ben, well if you don't ask, you don't get. It's not cheeky, it's pro-active. We've been encouraged to source primary research and attempt to speak to writers we admire and who influence us about their working practices, their typical routines, their approach to characterisation, etc. I'm an author, you may not have read my work but I don't mind answering any questions. I don't come on here much so you can contact me directly by emailing jude (the at sign) fleurdelyspublishing. I run a spoken word night in Sheffield called Northern Lights, 2nd Tuesday of every month upstairs at The Rutland Arms, you're welcome to come and perform there, we do get people from other cities performing. Good luck with your assignment anyway
