Who else saw this new sitcom by Graham Linehan on Channel4?
It was cool that they showed the first two episodes as a double bill I thought, because the thing with new sitcoms is, you usually only get a half hour to take on board all the characters. With the two in a row, you had time to get accustomed to the characters (and have the whole 'sit' of the sitcom explained) in the first episode, so you were then ready to settle down to the already familiar characters in the next episode. Well, that's what I thought! ;D
Overall, I found it pretty funny, and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. I know that Mr Linehan has been quite vocal in his dislike of the current trend for comedies to be 'dark' and 'edgy', and that The IT Crowd is kind of his statement to show that normal, traditional style sitcom can still be great. I think he has accomplished that. Just take a look at Nighty Night series 2 and you'll see what he's on about!!
It was a refreshing change to see Chris Morris as a full-on sitcom character! He was in it alot more than I thought he would be (well, I was going by his track record of being a camera dodger when not in his own projects). He was really good as the shouty boss, and just loves his teams (including the A-Team with the famous character, The Jewellery Man).

Thought it was OK, Morris definitely the funniest thing in it. Everyone thinks of him as a writer but his acting's always been quality (his Ted Maul alter ego in Brass Eye / TDT always makes me chuckle). I loved the 'profanity buzzer' Think I'll give it a couple more eps before I pass verdict though. That said, the Irish bloke (the one who got stabbed in the thigh with the bird's heel) is very possibly the most annoying fella I've seen in a long time.

Richard Ayoade. He was in Nathan Barley as well. Also, he's apparently the writer/creator of the Garth Marenghi series.
I couldn't get into the IT crowd for a bit. I hate canned laughter. But I remember I like Father Ted, and persisted. I've seen the first episode. It's alright, but I wouldn't put it on a list of favourites.

Isn't canned laughter the type that is added to the programme afterwards? That's not the case with The IT Crowd, most of it was filmed in front of a live audience (as has been widely reported), and anything that wasn't was played to a live audience to capture the genuine laughter.
The more I think of the programme, the more I like it!
The sight of a ceremonial Japanese sword being taken away in a carrier bag cracked me right up. I always seem to laugh at the smallest things, while often not enjoying the big laughs.

I kept thinking while watching it was a bit traditional but after reading this I guess that's what they wanted, it was good all the same.

Hmmm episode three was a bit rubbish I thought.
That is all.

Yes it was, the jokes are to over done and there is a mix of traditional sitcom comedy (ie dated) and surreal stuff and it just doesn't mix, the characters are not very likable either. The woman in it is plain annoying and far to OTT. They followed it last night with Father Ted what a difference I see that Graham Linehan directs The IT Crowd as well as writes it maybe should have chosen one rather than both, was fun to see a cameo by him as a singer in the naff family restaurant though. "it's not shit, it's chocolate" wasn't funny the first time....

Thought first episode was pretty good (all I've watched so far) especially Chris Morris talking to his computer.
"Hello Computer!"

Just watched episode 4, not much chance of second series on this evidence.

I'm with you on that one maybe a second series is justified!

The woman on it though? I would. I would as well. But she is as annoying as anyone else I can think of on television. So... In the mouth's probably best. I've only seen the first two episodes and a bit of the third. Not really impressed. As The New Al Fresco says, the elements of old and new British sitcom don't really mix well... It's a bit like oil and water. Richard Ayoade's character especially just seems to be from a different programme than the Irish guy.
