Just saw Mike Leigh talking on his mobile phone and looking lost in the centre of Bath. I was going by on a bus, but I'm sure it was him. I think I heard he lives somewhere near hear. I know Ken Loach does too. He's always raising awareness of Bath City FC. I also projected a preview screening of his film My Name Is Joe when I worked at the Robins Cinema in Bath. He was a thoroughly nice man. Quiet and unassuming.

Ken Loach is from my home town. I also know that Van Morrison lives in Frome Dave!

I used to know a joke a joke featuring the word 'Nuneaton' but i've forgotten it so it must have been crap.
As for Mr.Leigh's flicks, wel, it's got to be 'Meantime' every time. I've grown up with it since the first day it was shown on Channel Four and, next to 'Kes', it was my favourite British movie for a long time (until I discovered Powell/Pressburger, Lean, Reed etc). 'Nuts In May' always make me roll. At the moment he's gone a bit Bergman on me. No smiles amongst the gloom anymore. And why oh why can I not get 'High Hopes' on DVD..? Baffling.

One of my tutors, when looking up a local actor's phone number for us, stopped to gloat about having Ken Loach's number in his phonebook. Twice. It was painful.
Between that and the constant "I coulda been a contender!" impressions, I was very uncomfortably.
