Anyone out there play/watch poker? Ive been hooked for years now since C4's 'Late Night Poker' took up playing online about 2 years ago with varying success. We have a home game about once a month playing tournament style hold em nothing too heavy as the alcohol usually distracts us from our game. I am about to take the plunge and join a local casino which has a card room for regular tournaments.

Hi Lee, ive been playing for about four years now but i dont touch the internet after losing about 100 quid pissed one night. I go to a casino for a torny every saturday and i find that to be a good laugh. My mate won it on saturday came away with about 350.

I play on the ladbrookes site which is pretty good. I hate those fuckers who get all upset when they lose a hand, and start questioning your ability. It's like, if your gonna get all serious about it, get off the $2 tables!!

Getting drunk and playing has been problem for me too. After a few drinks my confidence goes up and bluffing/aggression steps up but after too many drinks and im losing big time. I also play on Ladbrokes found it to be the best site much better than PartyPoker and UltimateBet. Grosnevor have just opened a big new casino in Manchester with a card room and have tournments most nights i just need to build up enough confidence to play at a table with experienced players. Any advice JT?

yeah fuck the experienced players. I find playing poker a very technical game but deep down you still need the cards to win. Bluffing and all that is fine but if you dont get the cards you cant go very far. My problem is patience, if after 2 or 3 hours all you have had is shit dont get forced into hands you wouldn't normally play and don't chase cards, which is a trap i fall into, where you keep matching someone when your after one or two cards. Yeah if it comes in and sometimes it will you'll be laughing but watch the odds, trying to hit a number or even a suit isn't that good odds.
I think most players develop their own style of playing they find comfortable. I have real trouble keeping a straight face and not showing my emotions so i talk and laugh and take the piss all the way through, i also show my cards a lot whether i have a hand or not and i tend to try and rile one player usually who i think is the best.
If you want to play online just play tornaments either free ones or 5 or 10 dollars as they are great practice for little money. One thing one of my mates does is when in a large torny he will just fold or check everything sometimes not even sitting there just putting auto check/fold. He does this so he is only losing hi blinds and after half and hour or so alot of the dick heads will have gone all in and lost so you can find almost half of the amount of players that started.

I play on POKERSTARS using play money, I daren't start playing real money or the Mrs will castrate me with a blunt butter knife! Me and my mates used to have a game every saturday night at mine before the baby was born, can't do it now, no smoking in the house etc Must try and get to a casino sometime and have a go in a tourney.
