Hi Shane and Everyone else I have an idea for you that I have seen elsewhere recently. You must know Nick Love (Football factory, The Business) well his new film is called outlaw www.outlawthemovie.com. They are financing some of this film through his fan base, check out the site just to see the idea behind this. Basically for a tenner u get a T-shirt and ur name included in the credits as an executive producer, for fifty quid u get a hoody and some tickets for the film I think. For one hundred quid u get the T-shirt, the hoody, the tickets and u can be an extra. This is a good idea to raise some capital for a film and people I know have shown an interest as they can just pay the cash to the website via paypal. So as there seems to be a Shane Meadows fanbase out there including myself why not consider funding some of the money on one of your next films in a similar way, maybe not hand out T-shirts but u could I imagine easily add some credits as executive producers maybe a special screening or something. As funding with all british films seems tight this could or could not be a good idea to raise some capital for the next film.

That's a pretty good idea what Nick Love is doing. It's not an astronomical amount they're asking. Shane never seems to have problems getting money from the funding bodies though.
I'm raising money for a short film myself by holding a dance/karaoke/prize bingo (dunno yet!) night at a social club. Hoping to raise two grand by July or August.

Hi Patrick
Yeah I thought it was a good idea to help raise some capital for funding the film and not much money and people would like to see there name on a film. Good luck with your raising money for ur film I hope it all goes well, what is ur film going to be about?
At the moment my films are very low budget I guess we can only make the best we can with the budget available.

Well so far I've only really made camcorder shorts using friends, that kind of thing. At university I'm making a film now (shooting next weekend) starring local actors (although I think the main actress has pulled out so we'll have to use a drama student).
But over the summer, I want to make a short film called "Joined To Me" about a guy and a girl - strangers - who get handcuffed together in a club as part of drinking shenanigans. Only, they lose the key. And it all goes downhill from there.
I'm looking to raise two grand for the budget, one of the teachers is letting me use his DVX100s for free. So actual money is gonna go on paying some decent actors and crew. Hopefully it's a three-night shoot over July and August. Oh yeah, it's mostly night exteriors as well, on miniDV (breaking the cardinal rules!)... So might have to spend a fair bit on lights. Who knows whether it'll work out or not.
Good luck with your films as well daz. We all need luck at this stage of the game.

That was a very savvy idea Nick Love and the producers came up with, for sure. The Outlaw is an interesting project - from what I hear, the film's research was conducted through interviewing people in pubs, etc.
Having seen all three of Love's films, I happen to think he's an accomplished filmmaker and one with a great eye for visuals (The Business is sumptiously shot) and a good knack for picking a good soundtrack. Some have dismissed both Love and his films but he makes them for an intended target audience and I find them immensley entertaining.

I am in agreement with you Companero, I own all three of his films and watch them all the time. 'Goodbye CB' is funny and is a good example of banter being entertaining as in Meadows films. I found 'The business' a bit of a letdown when I went to see at the cinema but as I watched it more and more I appreciated it more for what it is and how it is shot. I love the fact that the colours saturate and de-saturate as the characters lifestyles change, very subtle but very effective.
Danny Dyer is awesome to watch no matter what film it is.

Charlie Bright is definitely the best of the bunch, IMO but The Business is great fun - it's the cinematic equivilent of playing Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
