Just stumbled across this article about makng your own steady cam from cheap materials. www-2.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/steadycam/I haven't actually had a good read of the article, but there are four demo video clips of the steadycam in action, and they are very impressive indeed! Maybe someone here is interested enough to make one of their own? I know I'm not, I have no practical skills for making such an item.

On my last student film, my co-director broke our only tripod, and seeing as we were on a tight scehdule and filming on location we only had the day to film,
So we tied a peice of string round the camera and stood on the other end, then pulled the camera till the string was tight,
Not the most effective method but it still works!
