Hi Guys
I have recently written a new film script that I would love to get shot and into some of this years film festivals, at the moment I have two problems and wondered if any one had any ideas:
1. I don't want to film it on an amateur camera if I can help it, any ideas about if its worth renting a decent camera and where from as at present I can't afford to buy anything like a Cannon XL1 or
2 or A Cannon XM2. Also the advantage I guess of renting means I can ger a boom mike and good sound quality. Do you also know if I film on something like an XL1 can i still edit it on my normal laptop, i'm guessing its something like mini DV so should be fine.
2. For this film I need a youngster to play the main role of a 14/15 year old lad, where do you think I can get one of these from, local drama students at school maybe? I havent ever worked with anyone this young yet and I would probably need permission from his parents as well I guess. Possibly I could find a young looking 16 year old.
Cheers DazzaB ;D

yeah the XL1 uses miniDV tapes mate so that'd be all good. as long as you have firewire (aka i.link) to your laptop your away.
unfortunately i dont have a clue about getting actors, but good luck with it mate

Hey Dazza, In my short film "Out Of Date" we managed to get a 72 year old woman from a Drama club so can't see why you can't get the kid youre looking for! Just promise them a copy on DVD thats all we had to do! Si

Dazza, Amazon sell a firewire adapter for laptops. £26.61. www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000225I4E/203-8565382-8895902I've just bought a new laptop recently, so I'm thinking of getting it myself. Yeah I'd suggest local drama groups, the actors for my last film "Bump Off The Boss" were from a local amateur theatre company - went to see them do "Singin' in the Rain" and waited in the foyer to ask them at the end. I've just consulted the "90210" guide to casting, and apparently if the role is a 14 year old, the actor you cast should be between the ages of 23 and 27.

Patrick, thanks a lot for the link to the firewire adapter, I'll take a look and see if it can be purchased for my laptop. Thats a good idea about local amateur dramatics, I know where there is a group locally and have thought about seeing a show and then grabbing one or two people afterwards in the foyer and seeing if they would like to be in a film, I would think many people that do amateur dramatics would love the chance to see themself on screen.
