Hi
I just wondered has anyone ever taken part in any film courses, not degree courses more like 4 week, 8 week, etc rather than 3-4 year full time ones.
I was looking at some of the courses that the New York Film School was offering over 4-8 weeks and just wondered if anyone else had ever done anything like this and if they thought it was worthwhile.
I have also looked into Raindance as well in London.
They all look good when you see them on the website so just wondered if anyone has ever done anything.
Film is something I would love to get into for a career and am just thinking the best routes to try and get into it.
Cheers Dazza ;D

Wish I could help you mate, I would love to do something like that, but I doubt my grades would allow it.
Good luck mate.

Thanks Hyde, the interesting thing you might like to know though mate is you probably wouldnt need your grades to do something like this. They are looking more for your passion in film and wanting to make films.
As its not like a Uni course you wouldnt need to qualify to get in. You fill out some forms which ask about things you might have made before and why you want to do the course and what you want to acheive.

Lol Yep of course there is also the question of a sum of money depending on what course you do.
Raindance are offering a 2 day Writer/Director/Producer workshop run by Dov Simens. Other industry people who did his workshop were Guy Ritchie, Matthew Vaughan, Jeremy Bolt and Paul Brooks. Surprisingly its only £245 for the two days which is better than i thought but sadly I'll be stuck at work on the dates its on :-(

Yeah, I'd say if anything, go with a Raindance two-day course - don't pay into the high hundreds or thousands for a film course, because for that kinda money you can make a film and I think we all learn more from actually doing it than hearing it. And the good thing about a two-day course is that it's intensive and doesn't give you time to get bored or tired of it - so by the time it ends you should be raring to go. At least that's the way I imagine it should be. One thing I'd suggest if you haven't read it is the book "The Guerilla Filmmaker's Handbook" by Chris Jones and Genevieve Joliffe. It recently came out in its third edition, and it's basically made up of interviews with people in every aspect of the industry - from funding to production to marketing, loads of stuff. 90% of it is really accessible as well (but I tune out a bit when it comes to the technical jargon and legal stuff). It costs about thirty quid. They do courses as well. Their website is www.livingspirit.com/

Let us know if you do decide on a course, Dazza, I'm thinking of going on one myself (in the hope it will motivate me).
