Evening all, All the recent talk about writing and ideas got me thinking: would any of you budding film makers be up for shooting something that you hadn't written yourselves? I've been off work this week, and after a couple of days of faffing about I've put together a five(ish) minute screenplay. It's called Bloody Students and is - I hope - a different-from-the-norm take on living in a halls of residence, mostly cos it's something I've never experienced first-hand but also cos I thought it'd be easy to film for anyone who's on campus or got contacts there (not sure if anyone here is/has...?) . There's a couple of gimmicky shots in it and the odd transition or two, but no CGI or martial arts gangbangs so it should be fairly straight-forward; just an actor, couple of extras maybe, and a handful of well-delivered lines So if any of you director fellas are itching to get behind a camera but not too sure about what to put in front of it, you're more than welcome to have a crack at what I've written if you've got some spare time to kill (just so long as you can read PDFs on your comp that is!) If interested I'll send you the script by email. Cheers

hmm me thinks i'd be up for it, i'm not in halls of residence though, but i will be in september. so if you could wait till then, i'd be happy to give it a crack, i'd be shooting on an XM2 camera, and using final cut to edit. and yeah i think i can read PDF files.

I'd love to have a look, flash. I might be able to get access to halls of residence over the summer, might not be, but I can try!

Cheers mate. The thing is though, Michael Keogh (aka keo, the man who can't be killed ) got in touch about ten mins after I posted that message up so I've let him have first dibs on it, first come first served etc. Though if you're still interested in having a read of the script I'd really appreciate it, as the only short films I've shot myself are twenty seconds long and use a Samsung D500 as their DOP

Yeah, I'd like to see it. I want to read more short scripts, just to see how other folks tackle them... Yet I can't get interested in random ones on websites. It's easy for me to fathom the whole "It's not what you know..." concept, because I myself am much more inclined to want to read something from someone I'm somewhat familiar with.

Thanks Patrick, I've emailed it to ya. Hopefully familiarity won't breed any contempt ;D

Oooo I wonder if this will happen more often on here. Such a thriving short-film community collaborating on different aaspects of production.
I wonder if I will ever shift my arse and write something. It will probably be similar in 'comedic' style to the Weston-Super-Mare film I did, if I get round to something.

I see that the other day, very good I thought. I loved the mentalist screamo-trainride sequence - reminiscent of Jez North trying to snatch that kiddie in the Brass Eye special

I've received the email, thanks Flash, but Hotmail is being a cunt and not letting me download the pdf (it seems to not allow me to download file attachments about 50% of the time), I'll try it on my laptop in a bit.

Hello Mr Harry!
Do you think I could have a read of your fine script? I was just thinking that you seem to have a fine taste in comedies that more often than not matches my own tastes. So, I may bloody love your script!

You smooth talking creeper you I've emailed it to you Dave. Don't expect a barrel of laughs though... well maybe a small barrel, like Pop Up Pirate or something

Flash! I've just sent a few lines on my thoughts on the script. I thought it was great.... would make a good short film!

I managed to get it from Hotmail, I enjoyed reading it. At times it was muddled (I'm not sure how to articulate it exactly, but some of the longer internal monologues could've done with a polish), but I found it very involving and engaging. It wasn't as laugh-out-loud funny as I was expecting, but I like the tone you've struck with it. I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out. More thoughts later.... The biggest compliment I can pay it is that I was frustrated by the ending, I wanted to see the story continue.

Nice one gents, thanks for the read! ;D I think you've got a point about the ending Patrick, it could probably do with a bit of a tweak. Originally it was written as a first-person short story and I think it worked a bit better in that format. But then again, to quote Iain Banks: Really appreciate you both taking the time to read it. Plenty more where that come from! (well one more)

I don't necessarily think the ending is bad, it definitely leaves the reader/viewer wanting more, wanting to know what happens next... It's not a "Well, I'm glad that's over" feeling that some things leave you with. The leave-it-to-their-imagination conclusion might be a good idea, but I don't trust my own imagination.
Your script, along with Dazza's war short, has gotten me interested in doing a first-person monologue kind of short... I think it's gonna be about a gullible chap expecting the end of the world on a Wednesday afternoon.
