Red food colouring mixed with Golden Syrup. If it is too thick then water it down a bit. It looks really rich in colour. A bit messy though, but then so is real blood.

If you mess with the colors abit ive heard they use watered down chocolate syrup in some movies or a mix of corn flower or something. It has deffinatley been brought up by some good horror directors but i cant remember where. I think psycho used the chocolate syrup?

depends how much you want, easily the best i've used is living nightmare theatrical blood from a fancy dress shop, it is exactly like blood, or if your not squemish ask your local butcher for some real blood and he may even throw in a few odds and ends ha! if you need a lot like squirting it on walls and wot not then just experiment with some corn flour, syrup and different shades of red food dye. you could carry a little plastic bottle around with you so that whenever you get a nose bleed etc you could thin drip it into the bottle and save it in the fridge (if you need lots then start a fight)

They used Chocolate Syrup in Raging Bull because it looked better in Black & White.

They used Chocolate Syrup in Raging Bull because it looked better in Black & White. Yeah.. and that was the same reason for it being used in Psycho I think. Found this page with a few different recipes: www.stormforcepictures.com/howto-makefakeblood.phpI'm pretty sure red food colouring stains everything to buggery, including skin! You'll need a brillo to the face to get rid of that lot.

That's what I used for and it was alright. The best time for it is in November or December when supermarkets sell off the fake blood they stocked for halloween cheap.

Wow wicked loads of good suggestions there fellas I'll try some out, I'm not after major bloodshed just enough to look like someone has really taken a pasting. Pat it looks like it worked a treat judging from your pic.
I have written a short film that I'm hoping to shoot basically some teenagers (2 girls and 1 boy) pick up a hitchhiker when they get lost and realise he is a bit of a nutjob and a bit simple. Anyway he takes a shine to one of the girls and comes out with loads of shit lines trying to chat her up and get a kiss out of her, the car runs out of petrol and he leads them through the forrest telling them he knows theres a petrol station 3 miles away.
As he starts becoming more and more obsessed with one of the girls she keeps knocking him back, when the lad thats with the girls tries to talk some sense into him when they go for a pee in the forest he tends to end up going a bit dark and beats the shit out of him and then........................... well you will have to see once its made. ;D

good make up for bruising will add to whatever you use for the blood, also my mate used to do this trick ages ago to freak his mom out.
Using builders putty (i think you can get makeup stuff too) you make a second skin over the area and use foundation and make up to blend it in, then he would cut into the putty to dreate the wound and drop his blood mix into the cut. Not very technical but aslong as it isn't too close up or if you use fleeting glimpses it can look very good. Also for lumps and swelling it can work but not as well. A nice flour and water mix can get some good dead flesh sort of effects.
Hurts like a bitch to get out of body hair though.

2 parts red food dye, 1 part green add the golden syrup (definitely the best solution in my book), add water and mix well. For gloopy blood (REALLY disgusting looking) add sieved corn flour for a scabby look. Works great.
