Hello Mr Meadows,
my name is Damien Hyde. I'm from Tipton, Near Dudley in the midlands. I have always loved film of all sorts, your included. I would like to make my own films, but as one of my peers told me "you need to be a one - legged, irish lesbian to get funding form screen west midlands".
So i have decided to create an alliance that aims to raise the awareness and production of films in the midlands. I am the foundero f the alliance along with friends who i have met whilst running on various short film sets. There are five of us in total and together we hope to be able to write direct and fund all of our own projects. We plan to start our own myspace which will critically analyse films that may have passed under the radar and deserve praise. If possible we will also be doing interviews and articles on the midlands film scene. We are looking to be fully functional in 4-6 weeks time. Our overall objective is to, one day, be able to give first time filmmakers the opportunity to make the film that they desire.
I'm speaking for all of us when i say that we truly recognise yourself as a great inspiration, an awesome auteur and a true english gem. We would be honoured if you could give us some support by becoming our friend on our myspace and maybe even giving us an interview on your success and background. I'm sure an article with yourself would do wonders for our cause.
We understand that you are very busy touring the festivals with "This is England" and that you have a project begining soon, but if you could just spare a minute to reply to us we would be hugely appreciative and very thankful.

well we have not created our space yet as we are deciding on a name for everything to go under. The alliance is too common and the midlanIds alliance sounds like a bank !!! But when we do. when we have it i'll post you the link and then you can just add us.
I really want to thank you for replying and helping us out. It means a lot to us.
Oh, is that a yes to the interview as well?? if so, i can get a load of Q's together for you by next week or whenever you are free.
I'm sure we can make a nice donation to a charity of your choice as well for the interview and a pic the article.

This idea intrigues me, Damien. I'm in a similar kind of boat, plugging away trying to get a foot in the door (or some decent shorts made). And I'm from Birmingham.
Have you seen the pic of Shane in the Dead Man's Shoes press release - it's proper dodgy!

Our Alliance is just starting up and due to our financial situation we can't take on any new members just yet but if you leave me you email i'll get in touch asap. I've had the same problem mr hyde, i recently completed shooting a short in the morecambe and lancaster area and applied for funding at various inbred establishments who like to see you on bended knee before they say no! Ass-holios! I attempted to raise funding from local businesses (250 in total) and only got a reply from 8, however they did supply me with financing and food for the cast and crew which was a godsend. Friends and family seemed the best bet to me, after some serious convincing that the cash wouldn't be wasted. Hopefully on the back of this film i may be able to twist more arms to finance my new script. My last one should be complete by mid feb and i will put a notice out as to where it can be viewed.

while your at it Mr. Meadows,if you want a top gear smart skin for any promo work (re This is England) just gis a nudge as I'd be well up for the crack.It looks like your latest venture (have downloaded trailer & pics/reveiws)and looks like you've popped another cracker. If things come off for you as they should I reckon you'll have a cult winner on your hands - remember how Quadrophenia kicks ass for the mods,T.I.E. looks like it's gonna do the same for skinhead scene & take swing away from the Romper Stomper mindset.As your past track record has been so excellent I'm sure you won't be letting the side down.I'm a West Ham Trojan Skin that was devastated & disappointed when "Green Street " came out but am a hellva lot more optomistic your the right man for telling this tale.
