My first year university film. I play the main character, dubbed over by my cohort Tom Marshall from Rutland Weekend Films. He was the director, I edited and produced the piece. You can find it here. Please do watch, and your comments would be lovely.

I was going to say... "Pity you couldn't find an old style telephone..." but I won't.
That film was great. Loved the moody noir style shadows, and the crazy train effect.
I imagine that there was a surprisingly long script for that 5 minute film. The fast talking detective voice-over rattles on at great speed. Really good voiceover too... especially at the 'transition' point. Because the dialogue is so fast and dense, it did sometimes get a bit too much for my slow mind! haha.
Brilliant ending! Nice one.
I feel guilty now for not paying attention to this film making section for such a long time!

that was great, very well made and nice concept. what 35mm adapter did you use and on which camera? We didn't use any adapter as far as I know. We filmed it on a Panasonic DVX100 - Fantastic cameras - Digital Progressive Scan thing. A Scanner Darkly was filmed with these cameras, as was Arrested Development. I'd go close to saying if they were HD, they'd be my perfect camera. Thanks for your comments guys, glad you liked it. It was a script written by my friend in the class, who also directed the piece, so it was his main creative vision in the production, whereas I had control over the editing. Yeah, the phone issue was hassle. It was a "run back to the flat" kinda job... we were going to use a mobile but i said that was out of the question.

yeah the dvx 100 is a good camera, i'm sure you don't get deph of field like you did without an adaptor of some sort, the letus or red rock m2 adaptor maybe? i have the sony hvr v1 which does progressive in hd, it's a nice camera and about the same size.

can't speak for this film wiggy and don't know if you already know this stuff but... just cheat depth of field by moving the camera as far away from the subject and zooming in as far as possible and also moving the camera as far away away from the background aswell, smoke also helps and I can't quite remember the details, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure lighting the set as bright as possible and setting the exposure as low as you can also adds depth,
my mates shot some amazing stuff on a red rock
and another few mates used a movie tube on a feature film

cheers, yeah i did that at a wedding i shot recently, as i was about 50 yds away from subjects though people kept crossing my path ha! we use a red rock with a panasonic hvx on our film bar stewards, it looks superb as long as its lit well which thanks to our dp it usually is. the thing with this film though is when they pull focus from the phone to the face, well they must have had an adapter as the phone was only around 2 yds away from subject. only reason i ask is i was thinking of getting the cheapest adapter (letus) the movie tube is way to expensive plus i dont like to hire as a low budget feature doesn't work to time constraints. here are some screen grabs with the red rock by the way www.pleasedsheep.com/bar_stewards_the_movie

I gotta say i'm pretty much 100% certain there was no adapter on the camera.. We just get the stock camera out of our stores, we didn't get any extras. Maybe we're just genius film makers, hahahaha
