Sandhurst The Retriever talks about ventriloquismYep... he's here again... everyone's favourite 'posh dog' - his voice has changed a bit (he had a cold in his previous videos), but he's here to explain the 'A to Z' of ventriloquism... with references to Keith Harris & Orville and a wee song... I prefer the first voice! hehe
Despite the traditionally low production values, I reckon you have some talent for the ventriloquism lark. It's hard to see how still you mouth is to be honest on those vids, but I'm talking more about the interaction between yourself and Sandhurst. Feels like a proper interaction with a proper conversation. In the first video especially I liked how Sandhurst seems more mentally focussed and 'switched on' than you do! A good trick that!

Cheers for that Dave - when practising in the mirror, I'm moving the mouth a hell of a lot less now, so it's coming on okay. It's pretty hard trying to get the dog to 'act' too... you're aware of the need to be in focus and range of the camera (despite poor quality) and then not to have the b*gger look 'inanimate'. As for me - I regularly do that - gormlessness is a trait I strive for! At some point I'm thinking of incorporating this with the 'Humour Therapy' stuff that I practice, so it'll be interesting to try it 'live' - although I have to say, I do enjoy doing the vids. for youtube! Maybe one day I'll get a proper camera... but until then, I'm happy to make these 'low-budget' jobs... it keeps me off the streets and away from glue, vodka and 'wrong-uns'. Neil.

Hello mate, just watched the first video posted in this thread, Really liked it! and would completely agree with Dave, you seem to have a lot of skill. Loved this bit "On school desks for example...." "where am I gonna get a school desk from?!"
"well, i dunno... but that's where it gets put sometimes" ha ha. Also when you said "They can't hear you" and he replied "Well... they can!" Ha ha.
It was really good cos you do seem like two completely different characters. You certainly have a talent for it.

If I'm honest... I've an 'idea' in my head prior to doing, and then I go for it and do have to 'ad-lib' - mainly because I've no editing stuff and just do the camera phone 'live', so I've no room for doing 'takes' etc. The improv sort of works as I go along because as I'm thinking what 'the puppet' is about to say, I often realise that the words are'nt easy to do and I'll have to rethink quickly (changing 'barn' to 'shed' as it's not easy to say the letter 'b') The stuff about the uniform etc. - now that was all ad-lib... I reckon that it's all part of the character 'coming to life' so to speak... not that I believe it does in real life! By the way... been planning a new character called 'Frankie Fishcake' and have done a wee bit of 'scripted' stuff so far... have a look here: Click ThisEventually, I'd like to get a proper camera though, so I can show the world in better res. that I'm much improved with not moving the lips when getting the character to speak! One day... Cheers again for all the pos. comments - glad you like. N.
