Well, some of you may remember me asking around for actors for a polish romp a while back, well it's finished after a lot of hard work from everyone involved, and i've finally got it online, albeit in two parts. We had the premiere/wrap party last Saturday, was a good turn out, forum members J (who plays Marek in the film) and Andy(Gadge) came along, and we got a decent response all around really. Anyway, here's the link to the myspace, like i said it's in two parts, but any feedback whatsoever, good, bad, or indifferent, would be very welcome! www.myspace.com/half_pint_films-Jake(HPP)

;D Wow! I am very impressed! The wait has been worth it. I absolutely loved this film! there's only one drawback, which i'll get to later.
Firstly all three main lads were excellent actors, especially Gregor. I know J isn't polish (although he did a good job of it!) But are the other two? It was very believable.
It was clearly heavilty Meadows inspired, most notably the juxtaposition of comedy and real frightening situations. I thought the granny having no idea, was a wonderful touch, and it didn't make the scene any less shocking. Funniest bit was Gregor hiding behind the two small tree bits ha ha! And J's character's face after drinking the beer! I really loved this film! Did you make the music?
And now to the drawback, nothing to do with the film really, but i was just upset about the low framerate. Really hindered my viewing of an excellent film! How did you compress the file? I know some good settings if you wanna know them? It would compliment the film a lot more if we could see it properly. You should be able to have at least smooth movement in the video. Its very well edited, and the frame rate ruins this a little. any chance of uploading a better version? Or even sending me a free DVD of the film?! ;D
Welldone, its excellent, keep it up. Oh, and if you need any help with future productions i'm your man, i'll even act! let me know.

Cheers Ryd, can always count on the forum's resident short film critic for some top quality feedback.
The actors all had to learn Polish for the film, we got a Polish girl on board to coach the actors in a workshop, J wasn't cast until after this though, so he had to go off the CD we had made for him. A fine job he did as well!
Yeah, i'm not too sure about the frame rate....admittadly i'm slightly clueless when it comes to the technical side of stuff (i'm only the writer/director!) but we've had a few problems compressing the file to Quicktime etc....whilst my editor and sound designer are the main men when it comes to editing the actual footage, when it comes to tieing up the loose ends when the film's completed, they're not quite there yet. We've just got a new Mac and they're getting used to the ins and outs of Final Cut Pro without a University technician on hand to get us out of trouble!
As for the DVD, shouldn't be a problem man, we got about 50 printed up from our graphics man, for cast and crew, but also for any film festivals eyc. should have a couple left over though, so just PM me your address and i'll see what I can do!

final cut pro,
file - export - using quicktime conversion - options - settings, and then its all pretty straight forward just pick your frame rate and compression type (what it was shot on)
oh and remember to untick the 'prepare for internet streaming' box, took me months to figure out why my quicktime files looked like shit!!!
whats next for this film then festivals???
good luck with it all

Great film I watched this earlier on this morning over on myspace. I thought the acting was great and the locations and the shell suits worked brilliantly. I thought it was really well filmed as well, nice variety of shots. Well done on a great film.

Great stuff.
I loved the editing of them looking for jobs interspersed with footage of them pissing about in grit skips and booting junk about. Cracked me right up!
I also liked the no-explanation-as-to-where-they-came-from moustaches!
I agree that all the actors were good 'uns. Were they all people you didn't know? What's it like directing people you don't know at all?

All the actors used were people we've never worked with before, bar Gaz who played Tomasz. As far as Stee(Gregor) and J(Marek) went, it was no problem, as they were both sound fellas, with a similar sense of humour to us, who were both very enthusiastic about the project.
Directing Saul though who played the father, Mr. Ludolski was a little daunting at first, just due to the experience the guy had, plus the fact that all of his lines were in Polish. But once we'd got warmed up and done a few takes, it was just like directing anybody else, i told him what I wanted, and we worked through it until we nailed it.
The plan is to try and get it into some festivals yeah...we're showing it at a Manchester shorts night next month, and we've already sent it off fir Edinburgh and the Soho shorts, but we're gonna try and get it into as many as possible...if you know of any just let us know!
