Heya,
I’m part of a production company based in Southampton. We’re currently working on several short film projects, in particular an experimental piece around the theme of what is art?
The project is inspired by several experimental works, in particular the unique work of Derek Jarman. This is the first in a series of short pieces, which will be put together to form a feature film to be entered into national and international film festivals. The first of these pieces will be shot on multiple Super-8 cameras and will consult the life, death and rebirth of a work of art quite literally through a large public event.
We would like to invite you to take part in this project. We aim to invite a wide range of artists and creative people to create a new piece, or donate an old piece of work to the project, which we will film, before destroying (with the creators knowledge and blessing). We hope to collect a sizable amount of work, which will be burnt in front of an audience (with permission from local council and fire services) on a large fireproof ‘canvas’. As they burn the pieces will blend into one another and stick to the canvas. The canvas will then be raised at the end of the film to reveal the birth of a brand new and unique piece of art that can be displayed where the film is shown.
One of the unique prospects of this project is that when the film is completed, we will also form a traveling exhibition to co-promote and raise awareness for the project. One of the key pieces of the gallery space would be this film, demonstrating a unique way of exhibiting a film and liberating cinema as an art form. We aim to shoot in early April.
Take care,
Sam Clements theartfilm@hotmail.com

Heya,
Thanks for the reply - we're looking for anything which could be classed as art (i.e. a personal form of expression) either physical art such as a painting or sculpture, photography, poetry - or art film on a dvd/tape or even music on a cd. The project is a representation of artistic collaboration between the artists and the film maker.
Sorry, I waffled on for abit there, your photography sounds excellent - we've accumulated alot of sculpture and paintings but not so much photography so it would be greatly appreciated.
I hope I don't come across as a horrible plugger - we do have a MySpace page and a Facebook group (under the art film) but we'd really like to discuss this over the forum and see what people think of it. Taking on board criticisms and collaborating with the film makers on the forum.
This part of the film is going to be submitted as our grad piece on the film course at uni, but we're going to carry it on and hopefully inspire others to make short films on the subject resulting in a long film around the subject of art...abit like Pars Je'Taime...but without Paris!...(Sorry, there are better examples of features made up of shorts).
Thanks Dazza.

Sammo, I think it sounds absolutely brilliant. I love the idea of burning a creation to create something new and I also love the amalgamation of different art forms. I'd love to be involved, I have some photography for it and maybe a concept art piece.
I'll check the myspace out when I get a chance.

Thanks alot Ryd, that would be awesome.
Just a quick update on the project, we've had some positive meetings and correspondence with staff at the Cube cinema in Bristol and the Arnolfini, also in Bristol.
There may be the chance of the film being screened at the venues as well as help in raising awareness for the project.
