Yes, I've applied for funding on a handful of projects, and we're doing it again on the new film.
My tips are: Introduce yourself and your project to the organisation BEFORE you apply for the funding. They're real people on the other side of those forms, and they like to get a feel for who you are and what you intend to do.
Get a good producer in place. Preferably someone who is amiable and can have a constructive input on the script but wasn't involved in it's creation.
Sell the film as a positive to the area it's being funded by. For example, it's going to be shot in the region or that most of the cast and crew live there.
Be honest about your costs - good and bad - and be ready to listen.
Good luck. Tom.

yeah the good producer parts gonna be a hard one up here in Cumbria! every producer I know lives in Leeds, I'll just do my best with the application form, I've got the equipment to shoot the film anyway so the funding would just be a bonus! thanks for the advice
