Received some exciting news on Thursday, my script 'Tender' has been commissioned by EM Media and The UK Film Council through DV Shorts.
Tina Pawlik and Yvonne Bray will produce and the brilliant Deborah Haywood (Lady Margaret) will direct. If there're people on here that haven't seen Lady Margaret I urge you to watch it (a great turn by Kieran Hardcastle as well).
Yeah, so got another 2 scripts pretty much written and a baby due in August - gonna be a mad old year me thinks!!

What brilliant news congratulations. Are you able to give any details about what the film is about? Feature or short?

It's a messed up love story set against a back drop of inner city estate life, domestic violence and gangs. It's a short - I think it'll come in at 17 minutes.

Just found out we've got Des Hamilton on board as casting director - he's the guy who discovered Tomo. Hopefully he can pull it out of the bag again and find us the peeps that'll bring this thing to life.

Congratulations Roger1!
I was wondering, do you have an agent or anything? How did you forward your script and get it noticed?
I saw Lady Margaret.... you're definitely in good directorial hands there!

Cheers - yeah, Lady Margaret is great.
I entered a scheme called DV Shorts - basically all the regional screen agencies get involved. My screen agency is EM Media, I wrote a script, entered it and luckily got selected as one of 12 to go into development.
After 3 months development they selected just 4 scripts to get made, I was one of the lucky 4. What's great about DV Shorts is that it's backed by The UK Film Council, getting their input and logo on your film is great. I'd urge anyone wanting to get their films made to enter this scheme. OK, competition is stiff - I think in the East Mids there were well over 100 entries and like I said only 4 selected, but if you get selected - what an opportunity!!
I have no agent as yet, hopefully that'll change when I finish my feature length script.

Roger is spot on, our region run it as well Dave Southwest Screen Council they are based in Bristol.
I applied a couple of years ago to the DV Shorts program and got knocked back but that was before I wote anything properly and the two ideas I submitted were pretty shite looking back now but they were pretty helpful.
I have two scripts in the pipeline, one I am going to make myself and one I am going to try and get funding for from them on the next DV shorts program.
