does anyone know how i can legally start a film club? i work as head chef in a bar/restaurant in cannock and wou;ld love to fill our usually quiet wednesday nights with an independant film club showing shanes films and the like. do you need a special licence or could it be a "gentlemens agreement" with the film makers and distributors?
any info is much appreciated. thanks

not far from cannock mate, wolverhampton/walsall area here, i'd be up for cming over for that if you got it running. Also just a sidenote the lighthouse cinema in wolverhampton has a monthly film club sort of thing, not been myself as work commitments used to get in the way.

No need to get permission from the film maker (sorry Shane) although you can if you like. You'll need a license to show the film from the distributor and they will usually charge you for this. Depending on the film, time after release and general mood of the salesman you speak to the charge (yes there will be a charge even if you are a charity) will be somewhere in the region of £80 - £150.
If you are serious about setting up this club then get a group of likeminded people together, get them to chip in a fiver each and get calling distribs. If you need any more advice let me know.
