Hey yawl, Finished the third cut over the weekend and It has gone down really well in the Smokey. I hear on the Warp grapevine that some hard-nosed exec actually shed a tear or two, which is no mean feat at any stage, never mind ungraded and un-mixed cuts. Without sounding like a big headed arse, I really felt like we'd started to hit the mark with this cut and I can't tell you what a releif it is to have all those people who put up the millions feeling that the film was worth making. It took them a while to actually get what I was trying to acheive but now they've twigged, the support I'm receiving is nothing short of amazing.
Some other news is that Cannes is looking unlikely, but to be honest I'm seceretly pleased as it means we will go for the Venice, Edinburgh, Toronto back to back run, which has always been a firm fav of mine as we can really build up a head of steam at these festivals. Also, going to Edinburgh means all the cast can come and be a part of it. Tomo (the lead in This is England) is doing amazing at school by the way and has also started an early morning paperound which is hysterical cuz now when he comes to stay he falls asleep on the chair at about 8pm. If you read this Tomo, We're very proud of ya mate, Keep it up!

Shane - cut any more and you'll only be left with a trailer Glad it's coming together, mate and really pleased that the powers that be are backing the film and crying into their Chablis. A little bit gutted that it wont make Cannes - as it means we're not going to see it until September/October at the very earliest (can't persuade the missus to hop on a plane with me to Edinburgh, Toronto or Venice, even for one of your films ). Patience is a virtue I 'spose and I'm sure it'll be worth waiting for. Does this mean you'll start work on your new film before this one hits the cinemas, now?

Great news Shane...
Wish Rob Mitchell could have lived to see this one. I knew Rob well in the early-80's (we even did a Channel Four programme together which I recently transferred to DVD co-incidentally) as we both had similar radical outlooks and hung around Sheffield together. I think I was one of the few skinheads he liked back then (probably cos I was in a left-wing band at the time lol).
Keeping my fingers crossed for the 'Fourth Dimension' cut.
Oh, and can everyone try to understand that just because it's a different cut doesn't necessarily mean it is shorter in it's running time. Scenes can be re-added to help the narrative or tinker with the structure etc. And if Shane is editing this on the AVID again it can be done quite easily compared to the days of cutting and splicing actual film or VT. Shane will know when, and if, it feels right.
My personal hope is that, when this film is finished, Shane will have laid to rest the spectre of his past and that he can train his sights on that most oft neglected of British subjects, namely, 'The Middle Class' (that is if he can get them to fund it lol). I'm fed up with wry glimpses of working-class life through shite-tinted spectacles and, personally, I'd like to see someone make a film that can stand alongside Lindsay Anderson's 'If...' as a double-barrelled attack on the current class divide in our 'classless society'. If you'd like a hand writing it Shane then I'd be very willing to help (I got a 'first' in screenwriting from Uni back in '92 but got dragged back into music like you do).
Keep On Burnin' Tel.x
p.s. Are you married to the title 'This Is England'..? Would've thought that 'Oi..!' was snappier but what the f*ck do I know. It's just that T.I.E reminds me of Strummer's low point when he put that bastardised version of 'The Clash' together - with mohicans. Picky picky picky i know.

Shimy is 22 now. When he's not acting, he's selling performance cars on Ebay. I just bought a 4x4 (non performance model) off him for £350 and It's wicked mon! I've just ripped out the back seats and have turned the tickover screw up to eleven, it now tops out at 65mph and is so noisy inside that it makes my eyebrows bleed! The other great thing is that Shimy spilt some antifreeze in the back before he sold it to me, so now I am developing throat cancer as well. Bargain!

Say, there's a lot to be said about anti-freeze, Shane. Withnail: [having just drunk a bottle of lighter fluid] Got any more? Peter Marwood: No. I have nothing. Withnail: Liar. What's in your toolbox. Peter Marwood: Nothing. Withnail: Liar. You've got antifreeze. Peter Marwood: You bloody fool. You should never mix your drinks. Can Shimmy hook me up, too?

I am OK thanks Companero. Just a bit p**sed off to be honest. Right on the brow of the hill. I was shook up but I wasn't hurt. My car is though. =( My poor little car, getting it fixed at the weekend though. x

Glad to hear you’re okay, Miss D. Even the smallest of accidents can leave you a little shaken – I was in a car with a work colleague once and it was hit by one of those VW camper vans. To say we had a lucky escape was an understatement but the dope-addled Antipodean that was driving the VW was absolutely gutted that the front of his shitheap camper was completely smashed in – he had hit us but was completely unconcerned for our well being. He just dropped to his knees in front of his vehicle and held his hands in the air (in a pose similar to that of Willem Dafoe on the Platoon poster!) – prick! Get pissed this weekend, get the car fixed and it’ll all be a distant memory

Missdonk... here's a tip if you've written the car off - put in an insurance claim and blame it on the condition of the road at the time. Was it muddy..? Have there been other accidents there etc etc..? My buddy did this a couple of weeks back and now he has a shiny new set of wheels. BARGAIN!!!
Postscript: This was the third time he's done this in the last two years so now his 'protected bonus' is written off. He's an idiot behind the wheel but, alas, a very nice idiot who just happens to think he is Sterling Moss.

Haha! I would Workshed but it I haven't written it off. Only a bit of damage. I am only in my first year of insurance aswell so it wouldn't be worth losing what little NCD I have. Too much money in the long run. Thanks for the tip I will bear it is mind for if ever I fancy having a new set of wheels. Hehe xo
