I was on the site yesterday eve and was also very dissapointed to see some harsh posts. It confused me, as i know 'TIE' is not about skinheads, but mostly it made me think how misunderstood this film is becoming, without people yet having seen it.
Shane is someone who will give you honesty about life, he is noble and brave enough to follow his heart. This kind of bravery leaves us all open to being very vulnerable, but he is very intelligent and would never make a film for the wrong reasons. He is a person who has decided to get off his arse and do something with his life no matter how scary it may be. So whether people like this film or not it has been made with passion and honesty. Telling stories is what Shane is about, and so far he has told us some beautiful ones. For me personnally i think he is just getting warmed up. I know the majority of people on this site agree.
I really hope you all enjoy 'This is England' because it holds some very important cherished memories for people somewhere in this life, and after all it is Shaun's story, no-one elses.
God brought you to it, he will see you through it.
Cynthia

this is how i started this post
its come to my attention that some people on this forum have this belief that drugs are part of skinhead culture ,,,without getting political i,d like all true skinheads or those that still uphold the way of life dear in their hearts to express their digust at drug use the looser lifestyle of drug users and show how far removed our working class ethics are away from this digusting habbit of self distrution,.
it does not mention the forth coming film it does say that shane gives a dishonest view in his movie that no1,s even seen yet it is not offensive it is not political yes it is to the point but skinheads are straight forward honest people they say it how they feel it.
it is a post in reaction to one persons comment that he knew skinheads that raided grannys medichine cupboard and so on, and the thread isnt even about the film.
admin can remove it if they wish its their choice, and i did ask for certain people to comment yet eveyones seemed to have jumped in and had a say now.

I haven't read anything on here about drug use or granny’s medicine cupboard being raided, I’m confused.

It's in the PICK UPS ARE COMPLETE! thread.. towards the end.
One person's comment about "raiding granny's medicine cabinet" isn't really 'some people' as you started your post. It's also a bit odd asking for the opinion of skinheads when you're on a message board for fans of Shane Meadows films. I am only aware of about 1 or 2 other skins on here... doesn't really warrant a new thread surely.

It was my post (although I was responding to an earlier comment in the PICK UPS ARE COMPLETE! thread by someone who talked like he wasn't 'there') and, if anyone thinks I'm lying about my youth, I'll scan me bleedin' photos to show yah (we should start a thread where people can post their 80's skinhead photo's).
Oh, and whilst were at it on the drugs/intoxication theme; how come no-one has even given a mention to that other optional/essential element in your average early-80's skinhead's existence - I speak of 'EVOSTICK' of course. I truly hope Shane has managed to depict the reality of bored afternoons on dogshit strewn playing fields in 1982 - with the possible added attraction of the ecoutrements I spoke of in my earlier post - and not fliched from the task on the grounds of not offending the moral minority. 1982 - that was the year I got suspended for eating magic mushrooms straight off the school playing field during a cross country run. I've never forgot those pterodactyls chasing me back to the pavillion. Mint.
Finally, for everybody's info - I'm quite sane and happily married ten years with two beautiful daughters.
Some of us here need to watch Bill Hick's 'Relentless'.

Oifan... some of us were below 'working class' back in the '80s under Thatcher. At 15/16 (in 1984) I used to stand with my Grandad/Dad on the Cortonwood picket line putting pieces of wood/nicked coal/anything that would set alight into the burning drum (to stop your balls freezing) whilst we bitched about the Nottingham/Derbyshire scabs.
As for clothing, my Harrington jacket cost about £5 and my stretch jeans about the same. Add a pair of red braces, a plain white t-shirt and some cheap brogues (the posher kids had sta-prest, fred perrys and Doc Martins) and you were away. Skinhead Ahoy! Oh, and the local barber, 'Russells' would give you a 'tennis ball' for £1.75 (co-incidentally, Russ made so much money during the 'skinhead craze' that he bought himself a Rolls Royce lol) leaving just enough change for a tub of glue (something I never did but I spaketh the truth when I told you that it was rife amongst the 'rebellious' at that time - honest - they just moved on to 'poppers' once Acid House arrived).

Holy Crap Oifan! Is there some entrance exam one must take to truly join the ranks of the skins......or is it just in your head? Is it me, but do your list of "rules" to truly be a skin get longer and more bizarre with every post? I could be mistaken but, it seems that every person that has been kind enough to share a memory about the subject (including the man himself Shane) is "exposed" by yourself as a cheap imitation of your glory days as a skin. Please, Please, Please, enough. Expand you horizons a little. I double dog dare you to post something on this forum that HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BEING A SKIN!! Kind Regards Gwenn

yes there a lot of standards not really known as rules and skinheads wear 501 jeans just 1 of the standards
but suits would cost around 3 to 4 pound with a shirt and footwear proberbly amout to over 500 pound
as far as the 84 85 stike goes i gave many a striker a days work paying them cash to help them out some even becoming decent bricklayers and getting jobs doing this
but i,d never help a scab or a glue sniffer
