Over the weekend, I went back to Grimsby and Nottingham to pick-up a few new scenes for the film. They weren't re-shoots (which are actually where a scene hasn't worked and you have another crack) but were actually a few brand new scenes for the film that will greatly enhance the end story. I did a mixture of these on Dead Mans Shoes, The end scene at the Zoo was a reshoot, whereas richard putting the drugs in the kettle was a pickup.
I have been pushing the idea of some pickups for a while now, but after seeing the third cut the powers that be sanctioned it and now I have all the pieces I need to make the film the best it can be. We did two days, which cost about £30,000! So I must thank Film Four, Film Council etc for putting their money with their mouth and supporting me. They themselves thought that the film could work without these new scenes but after a few phonecalls and a few days of writing, they all came to realise that a few simple additions could make all the difference.
I got the rushes back yesterday and I'm over the moon with them. It will add a week or two to the edit, but we should still lock off by the end of april. Thanks to, Tomo, Stephen, Shimy, Vicki and Rosamund for all coming back and working for stock peanuts, not to mention having their heads shaved again! It really was a cracking couple of days and a joy for those involved to get back together again. Praise god for Hotel Bars.
One final thing. I also managed to sneak in a new cameo as a drug dealer in a 1970's gold Addidas tracky. After watching the rushes I have decided I look a bit Like Ali G meets Harold Bishop meets Fatima Whitbread, which is obviously a great thing and exactly what was intended. ;D
