Thought this might be of some interest. I bought a book called BRIT PULP some years ago featuring, short stories by writers such as Ted Lewis who wrote GET CARTER, and in it there is a passage by Richard Allen who wrote SKINHEAD novels. Did you read any as a youth Shane? I know they were Pulp books, just interested?

Yeah, I think I read one called Bootboy?
A lot of the older Skins had his books on their shelves. Me fav book as a kid was 'A sense of Freedom' by Jimmy Boyle. I might go and buy that again as I haven't read it for nearly 20 years!!!

A Sense Of Freedom is a great book the film isn't bad either, me and me dad watched it on years ago on t.v, and I recently bought the dvd.

That's the one. Jimmy Boyle was the most feared man in Scotland for a decade then whilst in prison for murder he turned to painting and sculpture and turned his back on crime and has gone on to become a highly regarded artist!
I met him in Edinburgh a few years ago with his daughter and forfilled a lifetimes ambition to meet one of the most inspirational figures from my youth. Next on the list is to work with Paul Newman....

Just got to blow my own trumpet here but back in 1989 i met Jake La Motta outside the Sheffield Octagon. I got him to autograph my vhs copy of Raging Bull (which i still have). "What a pain in the ass this guy is..!" he exclaimed when i asked him to sign the tape as well (which, incidentally, he did). He was about 80 years old at the time but, boy, he was still one fearsome geezer. As i was about to go he actually turned around and thanked me for travelling to meet him, adding that it was 'very sweet'. Never forgotten it.
In fact i've had some scary dudes in my car over the years including a gangster/cocaine traffiker who, when he was 17, blew his wife's head clean off with a sawn-off. Really. Once i was 'driving him around' and the police pulled us over (brake light out) and i had to go sit in their car and be breathalized etc which took about a quarter of an hour. When i got back to the car the gangster turned around and said, "Nice job, Tel" and proceeded to pull a bag of coco out of his pocket with a street value of about 50K. How close was that?! It blew my mind. By the way - i just wanna state that i don't do the 'champagne charles' (except one time when i was backstage with New Order but that's another story altogether).
BTW it is 'The Debt Collector' that re-imagines the release of Jimmy Boyle with all the 'revenge tragedy' trimmings. Great film - why the heck didn't they ask Ken Stott to be the new Doctor Who..? What an actor (and a lovely modest bloke too - once spent an evening getting drunk with he and Michael Gambon in Scarborough - no kidding). That's enough name-dropping for now. Unless you want to hear about the time i met Bob Carolgees and 'Spit The Dog' (at the height of their fame in '81) or when i toured with Joe Strummer in '88. Some other time maybe.
