Just wondering what certificate This Is England is/will be?
Does it even need to have a certificate to be screened at the London Film Fest?

The film does not have to have a certificate to play a festival, I donot think - Iwent to see Cronenberg's CRASH at the LFF in 1996 and a few week's later, the film was banned in the borough of Westminster - the council actuallyover-turned the BBFC certificate! Madness - it's a brilliant film and not in the least exploitative.
I'm hoping for an 18; in the words of Simon Bates, who usedto introduce each video with a brief run down of what to expect:
"An 18 certificate film will most certainly have an adult theme and contain scenes of sex and violence and constant use of sexual swear words"
Shane, I hope you've hit the right quota of sexual swear words, mate. ;D

I can remember screening Cronenberg's Crash at the cinema I used to work at. We got some annoying press attention for our troubles. Plonkers. Same happened when we screened Kids, Happiness and that most recent version of Lolita. We were the cinema in town that would show such stuff because we were the coolest! haha. Obviously we just told the papers that we want to give people the oppurtunity to see these films and not tell people what they can and can't watch.
With This Is England, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a 12A. I think it would be great to open it up to kids between 12 and 14, because they will have some real characters to identify with for once! It'll probably be a 15 though.

Dave, a 12A? There's enough in the Rome Festival website clip to warrant at least a 15! I'll be very very surprised if its not an 18

If something is offensive to any particular group, then it's their choice not to watch it. The shitstorm surrounding CRASH was pathetic, as was the way in which the BBFC pandered to the fascists (they screened the film for a group of disabled people to see if they found it offensive).

This is England Will surely be an 18. I think Everyone would prefer a 15 for more audience attention obviously, but I reckon its pushing up to the 18 mark.

I'd put money on it getting a 15 certificate.

I KNOW REMEMBER SHANE WANTING TO GO FOR THE 15 MARK BECAUSE YOU GET MORE AUDIENCE THAT WAY. AND I ALSO REMEMBER FROM TIME TO TIME HAVING TO CALM THE SWEARING DOWN SO IM BACKING A 15 MYSELF ALTHOUGH IF IT WAS AN 18 IT WOULD BE COOL AS I WOULDNT LEGALLY BE ALLOWED TO WATCH A FILM IM IN GADGE!
