Any threads that are blatantly about piracy will probably vanish from the forums. From now on I will probably just do this without sending the original poster a personal message explaining why I have done this.
Alot of people on here (definitely new-comers) may not be aware that many of the cast and crew of Shane's films frequent the message boards. So, it's not only a dodgy subject to begin with, it can also be seen as just plain rude to be talking about such things in plain view of those who worked on the projects.
There are not too many rules on here, but every now and again events need to be addressed with a new policy.
We all know piracy happens, but this isn't the forum to discuss it (or ask for advice on it!).

But Dave... Even Kezz has posted in the "This is England" piracy threads. And The Wire thread alone has a dozen or so links and mentions and advice things.
A couple of the threads mentioning piracy have been worthwhile, I've thought.

Guys, piracy is a huge problem and one that has gotten progressively worse with the coming of new technology.
I've worked in the video industry for more than 15 years and can tell you that I've never seen it in such a sorry state. Piracy has a massive hand in the way things are panning out. The film studios have had to change their tactics, in order to try and combat piracy, and these tactics have caused the industry to suffer further.
As a consumer of DVDs, I'm thrilled that they can be piked up so cheaply, merely weeks after release, as I'm sure most of you are. The thing is, price erosion has come about as a means of tackling the issue of piracy, as historically, pirate copies have always been cheaper. The erosion of price hasn't tackled piracy at all; thos that buy pirates or down load them, still do so. What has happened is that the people that were buying legitimate DVDs at full price, are now waiting for the sales, and who can blame them.
During the course of the last two years, the prices have fallen harder and the rate in which the prices come down has dropped massively. Many high street companies have ceased trading as a direct result - MVC, Silver Screen, Movie Zone, the list goes on. This is a problem that's not going to go away and will get even worse and it is piracy that has set about the chain of events.
The film companies are no longer interested in creating UK-specific special edition DVDs anymore, neither. They're not selling enough copies of the back catalogue titles to cover the cost of creating the extras. So we, the people that love films, are losing out. Some of the smaller DVD distributors have folded and more will follow. This chain reaction will continue up the ladder and you'll see productin companies and smaller studios going out of business because they cannot recoup their outlays and ultimately, we'll see few films made; especially in the UK.
I'm not on trying to deliver a sermon here, I just wanted express the point of view of someone that genuinely cares about what is happening.
Don't put your head in the sand and think "I only downloaded (or bought a snide copy of) the film, it's not like I'm breaking the law or anything" - it's the people with this kind of attitude that feed the guys that are doing the real damage. Without you, they're nothing.

A couple of the threads mentioning piracy have been worthwhile, I've thought. Even Kezz? But what point are you making? There were quite a few threads before that thread which I had to get shot of. I wanted a direct response from Shane about it all, and until then I thought the best policy was to keep it off the forums. The reaction to that thread, and Shane's subsequent locking of it pretty much confirmed that I had been right in doing so. I know you are loving being able to point out bits and pieces that look hypocritical or have slipped through my holey net.... but the site is growing like a mad thing, and I can't read absolutely everything on here (that would drive a man insane). I haven't been reading The Wire thread, but it seems like all YouTube links to me. That's fine. YouTube is a legit site. How it decides to run its own service is up to them. Of course it's easy to pick at this issue until the cows come home, but respect for those involved in Shane's films is just common courtesy. (Mr Coyle points at Kezz again.... *yawn*..... Kezz made a mistake and got the Shimmy punishment dished up to him!). The Anything Else! section is for anything else... within reason.

I didn't see the end of that thread Dave... I just remember seeing a thread about it and Kezz (a cast member) posted in it. That was the only point I was making. Sorry, I missed all of this stuff with Shim punishing and Shane locking it and so on. Nobody tells me nuffink!
And I guess asking for clarification - can we discuss piracy as long as we keep the discussions away from Shane's films? I mean in terms of torrents and stuff. TV programmes and the like? On other forums, I think the standard thing is any actual links or anything are passed via PM.

It's just that with this site we're in an unusual and somewhat privileged position because so many members of cast and crew grace the site with their presence. Basically, on the subject of piracy.... nothing blatant, and have a healthy level of respect for our VIP members! ;D Definitely no links to torrents or anything similar. Everyone's Personal Messages (PMs) are out of sight and out of mind. I recently was the first person to put the This Is England trailer on YouTube. You could label that as piracy. I only did it to help promote the film your honour!

A fair and just point about the piracey Dave, we all know it happens but this isnt the place to promote it or discuss it with one another in public forums. The thread regarding TIE and pirate copies was a silly thread to have been started and its only going to get people who have worked hard on the film angry and rightly so.
