Dawn of the Dead, Aliens and Terminator 2 springs to mind as genuinely great sequels perhaps even better than the 'first'. Godfather part II already mentioned. And I'd also say The Good, the Bad and the Ugly should count. Evil Dead 2 (although I'm not a massive fan)
Shit sequels any that are pointless and purely money makers ....plus the likes of Ghostbusters 2 was weak as piss, Police Academys' and The National Lampoons Vacations went downhill after the first. Caddyshack 2 was fucking dire. as was Blues Brothers 2000 a proper money making horrorshow.
Whilst on a similar subject - pointless dire remakes :
Get Carter. Michael Caine - why spoil it by being in that gash? The Wicker Man. I won't go near it. Italian Job.
Good remakes are few and far between I'm at a loss to think of any. Scarface perhaps? Cape Fear? The Departed too maybe.

I cannot understand why they even remade the Hitcher. The original isn't too old and it's hardly a big film, probably only got very minor cult status too. A strange one that.

Scarface was a re-make?
I actuaslly think Ghostbusters 2 is awesome, honestly can't see much wrong with it. I mean an obvious cash-in, but i do genuinely think its a great film.
Other Bad sequels: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 and 3

sure, the original was a howard hawks film from 1932. and a truly groundbreaking film for its time... didn't do much for all the italians trying to make a home in the country though... much like de palma didn't do much for the cubans... good film though

The thing is which character would we follow from TIE in a sequel.
Harvey as he goes on to be a yuppie in the city. Drinking champagne and waving a big bunch of notes around going LOADSAMONEY
