Hiya’
My name is Crystal J I just got done watching “This Is England” and I don’t know how to put it but this was the best film I have ever seen. Never in my 25 years have I had such an overwhelming sense of emotion.
I spent the better part of last year in a village called “New Arley” outside of Nuneaton, how does an American girl from Seattle find her self in New Arley … I happen to have meet a man in America and he is British,,, born in New Arley and has been knocking around with the same group of mates his whole life.
When I first arrived in I didn’t quit understand the culture but loved it! I never really understand why English people had so much pride in there country (where I am from this kind of pride doesn’t exist, maybe cause America is so big?!) but I loved how much pride you all had … It made smile. I fell in love with England and all its charm in my nine months there. I had to go check out the country of the man I love so dearly. . I embraced the culture and absorbed it like a sponge (see more about England on my myspace www.myspace.com/cristall_michelle )
I remember my new mates teaching me the English Pride songs and trying to convince me that England was better than the my own country (fyi: they are both ace in there own ways) When I returned home to America I took a part of England with me but wasn’t sure how to sort out the whole life changing adventure.
~UNTIL TONIGHT~
Shane Meadows!!!
Tonight I watched the film and from the very beginning the music and cinematography was spot on. You managed to capture all of England, the shops, the bins the tunnels the trees, the style, the hair, the clothes, the lingo, the ma, the houses … It was all there.
You set up the movie in a way that I was able to feel as if I was the character … you made me feel EXACTLY the same emotions. I had goose bumps on me head!! The film was so intense I had to pause the movie to stop my emotions from jumping out of my skin. My chest was tight and at times I had a hard time taking normal breaths of air.
I am normally one of those people that can suss out a movie straight away .. Not with this film. You had me on my feet many of times during the film. The ending was so real … I paced my front room back and forth … I couldn’t even look at the telly’ I wanted the emotion to be over because for the first time in my life I felt as if I were there …
I want to let you know this film has made me understand England so much more!! I am thankful for writers/directors like you. You opened my eyes to film in a new light … You made me feel this film as I do music ``~you moved my soul~`` which is why I am going on and on about how much I am in love with this film.
Thank You!!
You are BRILLIANT!! Can’t wait to see more of your films!! NEW BIG FAN!!CONGRATS!!!!
