Yep - hope you'll al forgive me for this, but someone lent me a pirate copy of the film... Now, I've pre-ordered it PROPER off 'play'... so it's not like I'm trying to rip anyone off... and I was looking for cinemas everywhere that were still showing it with no joy... No - just to say that I was probably one of very few people on this here forum who hadn't seen it - and once given the opportunity to view, I jumped at it! Anyhow - all that 'promoting illegal pirating' aside - I have to say that I thought this was a CORKER - and one thing that I laughed at (well, one of many things) was the 'Donk' graffiti on the subway/bridge wall - nice touch! I'm glad I didn't wait until the official release now, as this is an excellent film - not often you see Perry Benson trying to have a cr*p on screen either! Again, a fair mix of 'social commentary', comedy and psychopathy, which are themes in Shane's films that at times have made me think of Shane as being the 'New Mike Leigh' (meant as a compliment). Now I'm looking forward to getting the official DVD proper when released even more - to see a PRISTINE print of the film, with all the extras too - brilliant! N.

How come? In fact, Mike Leigh prob. wouldn't like it too - to be thought of as being 'the old' - when he IS Mike Leigh... to be usurped... Sorry, just my usual nonsense - that 'Yorkie' has got my head whizzing with all the sugar. Obviously, he's 'his own person' as a director... but I'm kind of comparing to someone I admire, so it's meant as a compliment. I also think that Paddy is 'The New Gary Oldman'... or should that be 'The Old Gary Numan'? Let's not get into that though. N.

Ha ha. Shane just said in an interview that he thinks Mike Leigh does films about stuff... that he doesn't really know about, like "he hasn't been there" to quote Shane exactly. From an interview i have on DV... i really need to get my arse into gear and upload this. its about 30 mins long though you see! I gotta make myself a Youtube Directors account to upload it.

just made a new director account... and you can't upload videos longer than 10mins anymore! how annoying! Not happy! 10 min chucks looks like my only option then, or google video.

B*gger - I'd've liked to have seen that! Okay then... I'll say this in the meantime (oho - 'Meantime' eh? Another Mike Leigh film - witty me!)... Shane Meadows is NOT the new Mike Leigh... He is however the NEW TANK BULLOCK! Ding Dang - what a mon! Will that do for now? N. P.S. I also appreciate no-one b*llocking me for watching a pirate DVD, I was expecting such... as I said, needs must yer honour, I was DESPERATE to see, and couldn't wait - but I'm STILL looking forward to getting my 'proper' version on 3rd Sept.

You thought it took you ages to see it - I've only just got round it last night! Cinema City at it's temporary home at Norwich Playhouse brought it back by popular demand for a couple of screenings, so me and the missus caught one of them. Top film, one of those you know you're gonna love before you see it. Shane is a top bloke, seen Twentyfourseven before and have always wanted to catch Once Upon a Time in the Midlands and A Room for Romeo Brass as I heard about them at the time but missed them. Now fancy going a bit obsessive compulsive on his arse and working my way through his entire back catalogue - shorts n'all! Think I've seen that interview where he talks about Mike Leigh; isn't the one Mark Kermode does for The Culture Show? Considering his short film pedigree, perhaps a more accurate comparison (and culturally similar too) would be to say that he is to short films as Irvine Welsh is to short stories.
