Just received an interesting email entitled: DVD Cover HUGE mistake The email links to a video blog by a chap called 'Limmy' in which he points out the 'HUGE' mistake... take a look: I'm surprised that our regular Scottish visitors haven't kicked up a shit-storm over this one already! Well, actually I'm not, because I don't think anyone is likely to pick up on this choice of graphic-design colours as being a 'HUGE' mistake unless they have that kind of agenda regularly on their mind. He does have a point though.... and I wonder if there was any thought of Union Jack Vs St George's Cross by the deisgner? It's not like the Union Jack is irrelevant to the film anyway.... it's a huge part of the whole Falklands connection in the film. I'm dreading all the video blogs when the DVD is released in France... Holland.... USA.....

Damn I should sleep. 2:29am.
Well, I see the dudes point. Although, I cant see his point, but this may be my English'ness shining through.
I think the Falklands connection, and the massive significance of the Union Jack in the film justify its usage on the cover. In fact, thats the point, if the dude had actually seen the film maybe he'd have a better understanding of the cover. Get a grip.
And yeah, France are going to go fucking-ape-shit. Red, white and yes. Bleu!!

It amuses me he starts it as if he happens to have the camera running.
And I love the tag at the top of the DVD cover.........
'THE BEST BRITISH MOVIE SINCE TRAINSPOTTING'.. oh it amuses me anyway. I doubt this guy has been able to sleep.

He's clearly got way too much time on his hands. I found the video laughable. What non-celebrity films themselves chuckling and ranting away like that anyway unless they are full of themselves?
So the text is in red white and blue, there's no relevance to the Union Jack necessarily. It's like sayin the Play.com DVD has TIE in a pink banner so it must be homo.
What absolute bollocko.

what a tit.
Anyway, I'm scottish and never even noticed, but anyway, my opinion on it is that even if it is the union jack thats cool, as england is in the uk, this is england, the films set in england so it has a right to have that name, same shit would obviously been happening in scotland but, but guess wut? THE FILM IS SET IN ENGLAND
BUT, being scottish, if for example this film was set in Scotland, I dont reckon it could be called THIS IS SCOTLAND, it wouldnt work would it, THIS IS SCOTLAND, its like, people in england might think, well thats not related to us is it
so my question to you all is, is that true?

A lot of working-class people (where I'm from anyway) didn't know the difference between Britain and England or the Union Jack and the Cross of St George until Euro '96 anyway. So who gives a fuck about the text colour on the DVD?

I'm not Scottish or nationalist, but I see why he's a bit narked. I noticed the red, white and blue and wondered if this was a conscious link to the union flag (probably). Might not have been intentional, but the 'messages' can be read in different ways I suppose. Flags are powerful emotive symbols aren't they and the seeming conflation of Englishness and Britishness might be irksome if you happen to be Welsh, Scottish or from some parts of N. Ireland. It didn't bother me, but then I'm English..... Think he's bit disingenuos to say it didn't bother him too much and then make a video about it , but if it got to him, then fair enough. Anyway, no need to be knee jerk about every criticism.......seems that the bloke likes Shane's films and he wasn't ranting was he.

Well I'm not bothered in the slightest. I'm Scottish and would say that I'm Scottish over British but I do respect the union etc blah blah but this guy obviously is an angry person who is looking for anything that "puts down" Scotland. The cover says nothing about what this guy is saying. Aye its nonsense...

I always find that when someone says the words 'I mean, it doesn't bother me....' more than 3 or 4 times then in fact quite the opposite is true.....

Are you all aware that 'Limmy' is a stand-up comedian? Not that it changes anything, but you would have thought that he could have lightened it up with a few cheeky gags if it really doesn't bother him as he claims.
You would also have thought that he would be aware that starting the video with him acting as though he's just seen the DVD cover for the first time and someone just happens to be there filming him, would just look laughable.

On the poster, I'd really like to get it framed, but I can't find a frame big enough! Any suggestions of where I might shop for one? Preferably not one that'll require a second mortgage

He was obviously bothered by it as the use of the f-word increased rapidly as he ranted on but I would agree it was a good point if maybe a bit trivial to us English. But then again that was what he was getting at.

Now you see, that doesn't bother me... it does bother some people though. Do you see what they've fucking done there? Look closely. Yeah, they've gone and written SCOTLAND in red. Well it certainly tickles me. Some fucking idiot is gonna be thrashed to within an inch of their life for that massive cock-up! It doesn't bother me at all...it's just some people will be very fucking bothered. It's just another example of the Scots ripping the piss out of the St George's cross flag. Just cos Saint George supposedly killed a dragon those Scots won't fucking let it lie will they, and they keep banging on with their "Dragons don't exist!" and "Saint George is liar... and probably gay". Like I said, it doesn't bother me, especially coming from a bunch of fuck-wits who claim to have a dinosaur or some shite living in glorified lake. Bollocks!
