Was the cover of this recorded specifically for the film? Or did it already exist?
For the record I think it works so beautifully, it sums up the mood at the end so much better than the original would've. The bass on it is lovely.

I seem to remember Shane mentioning it before; it was recorded for the film.

I'm sure Shane said on the commentary that he heard the song thought it was perfect for the ending, then found out it was originally by The Smiths which made it much better as it kept in with the era.

The song first appeared on Clayhill's 2005 album "Clayhill".
I highly recommend all of Gavin's work with the bands Sunhouse and Clayhill.
He also appeared on Ted Barnes' album "Short Scenes", the line up included Ali Friend - making it almost a Clayhill album in all but name.
Gavin's guesting on a few tracks of UNKLE's "War Stories" is also a must.

Hey Thribb I agree I have had Clayhill small circle, Sunhouse Crazy on the weekend albums for ages and after seeing you mention the other day Gavin on UNKLEs war stories I bought that album too. The two songs Gavin does on the UNKLE album really stick out and in my opinion are the best but maybe I'm being biest. Fantastic albums.

That song was a nice touch and it's always good to hear a 'Smiths' number !!

This is my fav Smiths song, lyric is so beautiful and sad. It's perfect for the end of the movie and this version is more heart-rending... and just pefect.

It works because the smiths are amazing, and fit in the time of the film, but Gavins voice fits with shanes films, so its the perfect song to the film.
Fuck every other band covering the smiths and morrissey!

It worked amazingly well for that final scene with Tomo on the beach. Shane certainly has an eye for creating cinematic moments where the music couldn't fit the moving image any better.
