Well...in Easy Rider, Hopper and Fonda actually did take real acid tabs for the tripping out scene. They filmed the whole thing when they were tripping out.
But i really don't think Shane used real weed for This Is England.

Forget about all this weed nonsense (clearly it wasn't the real deal)... I'm still annoyed that we didn't get to see any 80's Pot Noodles! Those were the days when they contained 'mixed dried meats'.... none of this vegetarian nonsense! ;D

No, it wasn't real weed! But still in my opinion a question worth asking, thank you. I mean, method acting an' all. Usually it's booze - the stuff on set isn't real but the stuff in the actor's trailers most definitely is! Not that I'm saying all actors are alcoholics, far from it. In my early days I was a runner on a drama starring Diana Rigg. At around about 3pm she'd say, "Richard darling I think it's that time of day again" - and off I'd be sent to her gorgeous 1960's silver bullet trailer, where I'd find the fridge well stocked with cans of Pimms. She'd have just one, mind you, to oil the afternoon. Great days.
I also worked with a director who insisted on a Granny Smith apple and a kit-kat at precisely 4pm. It didn't matter what we were doing, he'd always take time out for the apple and kit-kat. Hated the colour blue too, even to such an extent that a blue safety label on a lawn mower right in the back of a single shot had to be hastily painted over.
See, if you want to make it in this biz, quirks is what you need..!
