Hello all,
I'm an actor (semi-retired), screenwriter and am just moving into directing (one short made, the next shooting shortly).
When people ask me which British filmmakers I like I say Shane Meadows and er... well, that's about it actually. A few others are OK but Shane is generally streets ahead in my view.
So I thought I'd come and join the happy band who share the secret - maybe not so secret for long by the sound of the pre-publicity for This is England?

My short's not online as yet. Could be soon though. It's played a few festivals and always seems to go down well.
As for the acting game - it's great when it works but, as I'm sure you know, can be tough. I've gone into semi-retirement because the good work is rare and I got fed up wasting my time going up for jobs I didn't want to do. I'm still doing the odd thing, but only when asked by people I respect and like. The problem with being a jobbing actor is that you more than likely got into the game because of a passion for good work and most of the work available is poor.
The best thing I ever did was to move into writing my own stuff - originally solo theatre shows that I performed myself, then onto screenplays.
Mind you, if you're in with Mr Meadows, you could start by keeping him sweet! There's not many like him around, that's for sure.
