Room for one more newbie?

Hi everyone. New to forums in general but am a keen film viewer and great admirer of Mr Meadows' work, so I thought "what the heck" and signed up.
A little about me? I wrote my first book at the age of five. And then I grew up, went to school and got a proper job, which didn’t leave much time for creative pursuits. Through a rather circuitous route of the mundane and just plain dull, I ended up working for the police which has just been the most incredible experience and has been the inspiration for my novel “Volka”. Recent events have prompted me to start a film script, working title "Cracks". It's sick and violent, dark and funny, and it made my boyfriend cry.
I have now been writing seriously for the last twelve months but don't know what to do to push myself onto the next level. Not having been to the right schools, colleges, mixing in the right circles, it seems there is little opportunity to break into the business unless you're very lucky to be in the right place at the right time.
But I'm not going to let that deter me. I'm serious about doing this.

Best place to start. Its excellent you're so keen on writing and don't worry about not having the right course or whatever, they mean very little anyway. I'm a keen believer that if you want something so much, you can get there, so just keep at it! You're scripts sound great. Anyway, enjoy the forums, we're all nice and friendly!
