slightly ashamed to say it's taken me a while to register here, even though i've been a fan since 'small time'.
As soon as i saw 'small time' i was hooked. i loved the way that it's imperfections made it brilliant, that the characters were so like people i had met, the way the actors looked like they were having a ball in those shellsuits, and the fact that the sunhouse soundtrack totally blew me away.
The East Midlands connection also plays a part for me. I spent a few years down there in the 90's and share in equal parts good and bad memories of that time. I also remember seeing a bunch of people in a charity shop in nottingham around the time small time was made (and before i had heard of shane), larking about with 80's style shell suits, and have always wondered if this was shane and co.!!??
I always get a massive buzz when i know there's a new meadows film coming out. I can't wait for the rollercoaster ride of emotions that they induce in me, and there's no other film maker who can engage me totally like that. I really love the humour in shane's films, but ultimately it's the darkness and the melancholy that strikes home the most.
I even enjoyed 'once upon a time...' lol.

Welcome to the site PaulTime!
Thanks for sharing your own story of how you got into Shane's films.
The charity shop incident sounds like you could have stumbled across the Smalltime cast! Perhaps we'll never know.
