Just wanted to say Hi. Im a new member but have been frequenting the site for a few years now. Ive been a fan since the first time A Room For Romeo Brass first aired on tv, and im pretty sure that figure is 3 now. I had seen Smalltime, Where's The Money Ronnie and 24:7 prior to A Room For Romeo Brass without making the correlation with the director. ARFRB struck a chord with me and ive been a big fan ever since. Anyways, i just got thru reading 'King Of The Gypsies', about Bartley Gormon. Im sure most of you are aware this could be a future film project for Shane. I happened to notice on page 89 an account of a show at The Elite Cinema in Uttoxeter in february 1972 in which 'Big Hearted' Artie Meadows Kayoed his opponent in 10 seconds and knocked out his teeth. I presume this is Shane's father (It mentions his son Shane becoming a director) I doubt there are too many film directors named Shane hailing from Uttoxeter. I urge you all to seek out the book its a fascinating read about a travelling lifestyle most of us have little connection with. The punch by Shane's father led to an intersting anecdote about a doctor and getting one over the boxing authorities. Im sure if made into a film, it could be an absolute classic. The incident on St Ledger Day at Doncaster racecourse and a fight down a mineshaft in Wales will be etched in my memory forever. Anyways ive introduced myself now. Just like to say i luv the family feel of the forums, what with cast members often replying and stuff, keep up the good work

Thanks, id just like to add i did actually have 30 or so pages left to go on the Bartley Gorman story and it does go on to further mention Shane directing a short on him for ch4, the battered britain season. Almost unbelievably i was in the garden this morning finnishing it off and heard 'any old iron' being shouted down the street. I havent heard that cry for many many years, and went to see a young lad walking down the street briskly walking and just shouting it every 20 or 30 yards. I guess if i wasnt reading the book i would have paid it no mind, just strange how things like this connect sometimes. LEX
