If this has been posted elsewhere, I apologise as the 'New Kid On The Block' (I refer to just joining, certainly not me age, nor am I a member of that 'Hangin In Tough' yankee boyband) - just send me a link to it and I'll be reet.
Anyhow - if not - a question to the feller himself...
Shane... what do you reckon to 'youtube' - I'm curious as I've been doing some stuff myself with the camera on the mobile... and I've seen some great stuff on there...
So what do you think of it all seeing that now every b*gger's making a film - a good thing?
I reckon so - a long way from entering the competition on 'Screen Test' eh?
Now I'm showing my age.
Question same to everyone else - what's your opinions of 'youtube' folks?
Neil.

In terms of people making and posting short films on there? I hardly ever see them. It always seems to be anime music videos, people falling over, and scenes from things taped off the telly. So I have no opinion on youtube and filmmaking, more's the pity. I've even put stuff on there myself and I still don't use it to see other people's. I'm a disgrace.

Cheers for the comments patrick - post a link to what you've done if you like, whether youre a disgrace or not. You're right about people doing stuff off the telly though... it's pretty handy for that I reckon, especially if you watch some of the cack I do... was watching a clip of "Metal Mickey", the 80s kids terrible prog. - now I'm a dsgrace watching a dog egg like that! I like to see just ANYTHING someone's done themself... even if it's the dog mooching around... I've posted similar too. Got to be better than watching 'Big Brother' - at least the folk who pst on youtube aren't all getting the attention of these media-whoring folk with marcissistic personality disorders!!! Here... gone off on a tangent now. N.

I use youtube for all my videos link below if you wanna check any of them out. I love it for film-making, i've had some good feedback, also some crap feedback, but both are good to be honest, just to know that people are able to watch my films online is great. I love receiving comments and messages from people who have enjoyed my work, its very encouraging, not that it happens often! As for most of the stuff on youtube its a load of bollocks, people falling over, people miming songs stupidly (that takes no skill) etc etc. a lot of crap is on there. But i do see the odd geniously edited clip, or home made video thats actually worth seeing.
I do check out other film-maker's stuff on there, but only if i'm linked to it. I've seen a lot of good stuff to be honest. I think overall Youtube is a good thing, definately a good thing for us film-makers. But its a bad thing for all those idiots who think they're funny.

But its a bad thing for all those idiots who think they're funny. Sorry to laugh here... but my stuff's about joke telling and humour, so I reckon I'd have to fall into that category too! Nah... seriously though, I see what you mean... and I blame 'Jackass' and similar television shows for that... plus, isn't that kind of thing only one step away from 'happy slapping' although they're hurting themselves? I'll have a look at your stuff when I get chance... and I'll even leave comments which is something good about it... Feedback from friends might not be honest as they don't want to upset - feedback from the 'anonymous' of the www (when constructive rather than just some idiot swearing) is far better... and when complimentary WOW - what a bonus. Thanks for the comment - appreiated. N.

YouTube is definitely a mixed blessing. For anyone being creative it's a fantastic way of making your efforts available to the world. In the past you had no chance of getting such an audience.
If it wasn't for YouTube I wouldn't have ended up in the Weston and Worle local newspaper, and I wouldn't have been asked to adapt one of my films into a magazine article! ;D

Hey chewbaxter, thanks for checking out some of my videos! Much appreciated. I've checked out some of you're stuff and i don't think it really fall into that category that i spoke of, allright, you are trying to be funny, but in a new and inventive way. At least you've thought about your videos and put a lot of effort in. Rather than turning on a webcam and moaning in front of it.
Anyway i should probably put this in the film makers forum bit, but i checked out some of your videos and i think its a great idea, i'm not too keen on solid jokes like Dave, i prefer satire and stuff. Some bits made me laugh though, such as "Reservoir and a dog... what tarintino film does that make? thats right! Kill bill 2" ha ha. Good stuff. It's great that you got an idea and you went with it, and i think some people would really love it. As for me, i like the idea, but don't find it hilairous, but i'm sure you definitely have an audience.
for more info on Dave's youtube fame check out the Weston Super Mere thread in the film maker's section, i'm sure he'll link you to it.

N. Here you go: Spoof tourist info film: shanemeadows.proboards39.com/index.cgi?board=myshort&action=display&thread=1118880831I think that thread still has all the business about me getting in a local paper (not my local paper though). It should also contain a review by comedian Richard Herring! I was as surprised as anyone to get a review from him. Then there's my epic spoof documentary: shanemeadows.proboards39.com/index.cgi?board=myshort&action=display&thread=1158944162&page=1This one is a 20 minute documentary about Bath Abbey and events from it's secret past. It is on Google video in it's full 20 minute version, or on YouTube in 3 parts. Both links should be in that thread. I adapted the last section of this film for a magazine article... well a fanzine really. It hasn't been published yet, but I will put up a scan of it when I get hold of it. Probably best to pop any replies on the original threads in the Film Making section. Thanks!

Reet folks... cheers for the comments... yer right by the way I don't moan in front of me camera... but that's because I'm a 35 year old former 'sweaty' with goth overtones rather than a ruddy 'woe is me' Emo (although I am a big Marilyn Manson fan who's sen him live but I digress...) Glad you liked me 'Reservoir Dogs' stuff - I aim for corny as you can tell Dave - I'll def. have a look at those links tomorrow, so there'll be feedback coming - and I will put it in the film making section... just got back in and I'm on here briefly - I'll want to sit down with a brew and look at your stuff properly. reet folks... I'm getting off this tangent I went off on... and catching the one marked: "What do you think of youtube" etc. So we'll carry on as before! N.

I've had thirty od thousand video views for this documentary I did, the first time I ever picked up a camera four years ago, although it is pretty much a pile of shit it's pretty amusing in parts and apart from a handfull of my friends I don't think anyone would have seen it if it wasnt for youtube which would, now I come to think of it, probably have been a good thing! hahaha
but seriously youtube needs to have seperate sections for actual filmmakers work to seperate it from emo's crying into their web cams etc...

Very true - plus all the kn*bheads doing 'wacky' Jackass style things which is basically only self-directed 'happy slapping' anyhow! By the way Gareth - post a link to your film, I'll have a look if you don't mind. N.
