basically i've chose to study Shane as part of my A-Level Film Studies course. i'm looking at him in terms of being an auteur and arguing my point as to whether he is or not. part of my reasearch has to be a questionnaire, and i thought it was a better idea to post in on here and get decent answers from genuine fans, rather than to hand it to people in college and maybe not get answers that would help me. pleasee fill it out it would really help, there's only 6 questions.. just copy and paste the questionnaire into a reply. thanks a lot

Q1. Are you familiar with the “Auteur Theory”? (Answer Yes or No.) Yes
Q2. If answered yes to the above question, please give a brief outline of what you do know about the Auteur Theory… Its a Director... (or producer or writer etc etc) who has a particular style, technique, etc that they use in the majority of their films.
Q3. Please list your three favourite films by Shane Meadows and give a brief reason for each choice…
1 - Dead Man's Shoes Reason - Because of the way it was made; Low budget, small crew, improv, not much writing process. The brother theme. The amazing acting, the twist, shooting style... the list goes on. It makes me cry everytime i watch it. It feels real.
2 - This Is England Reason - Great cast who were all super in their roles. Excellent story, superbly told. The way it was made (similar to DMS points above.)
3 - A Room For Romeo Brass Reason - Again amazing acting. A story about friends which is simple but true and real.
Q4. Do you find there to be certain aspects of Shane’s directing skills that feature throughout all of his films? (For example; a repeated use of similar locations, story lines, characters, actors, etc.) (Answer Yes or No.) Yes
Q5. If answered yes to the above question, please give as many examples as you can, referring to particular moments in the films if possible… Morrell/Combo as role models to younger people. Paddy Considine in ARFB and DMS. Gadget in 24/7 and TIE. handheld camera work, a realistic style. Small towns in all of his films.
Q6. If you did answer yes to question 1 and are familiar with the Auteur Theory; do you consider Shane Meadows to be an Auteur? Yes!

Q1.yes Q2. i believe that it is the question of who takes responsibilty/credit for the final piece, teh way an author single handedly can take both responsibilty and credit for a book, in film is it the director? writer? editor? etc as it is such a collaberative process can any director claim the film to be a creation soley of theirs?! Q3. 1This is England- it is shanes work at its best in terms of production values, sound track etc and has the potential to become a cult classic 2 Room for romeo brass- hilarious in parts very social realist and with amazing acting 3 Dead Mans shoes- surprisingly dark but still with personal touches and a certain amount of sensitivity Q4.yes Q5. the use of the midlands as both town and country settings, showing the industrial decline of teh area and the affects that it has had on men, usually limited father figures. Often shows one character who is a little fucked up. I think he deals with class indifferences by showing the working classes in the midlands. Q6. I think Meadows is an auteur mainly because he is so involved in the whole creative process of his films, which probably stemmed from his earliest works making budget short films with his friends and having to know all aspects of making films. Similarly as many of his films have semi-autobiographical elements it allows him to take even more credit for the piece and beable to call it 'his'. I think his choices on all levels of creation make him the auter for example choosing to cast alot of raw untrained actors such a turgoose who really adds to t.i.e.
hope this helps....can someone reply to mypost re nottingham/the midlands in meadows work. Thanks.
