Bon appetito,
Just got news that Somers Town has got into Berlin Film Festival and will be showing around the 9th/10th of february.
To be honest, I wasn't expecting to get in as we sent them a pretty ropey cut before xmas and they have rejected alot of my work in the past including Romeo, DMS and TIE (which they later overturned) so we are racing now to get it ready for its first public screening a lot faster than anticipated!
Even though it was written and budgeted as a 30 minute short, it has grown to just under 70mins and although it's not a genuine feature length film it should find a home on TV at some point between now and Summer as a one off Drama.
It has been a really great experience for me as a lot of the film is in polish and it gave me my first taste of directing actors who speak in a language that me not understandy. It's amazing how much of directing comes down to feeling, timing, body language and chemistry as opposed to just understanding the words.
It's no 'Die Hard with a cakehole' but it is a really touching little film that I hope will (along with Le Donk) fill the gap between TIE and King of the Gypsies and stop you all from getting bored of waiting and moving on to another director cuz I take yonks to make stuff.
Anyhoo. That is it for now, I am back into the edit suite to try and meet really menkal deadlines for the rest of the month. I hope one or two of you can come out to berlin and see the birthing!
Adios Mucackos.
Shandy.

Congrats, that's great Shane - really looking forward to seeing Somers Town. I've got a script in development with EM Media at the mo, so am right with you on the mental deadlines.
Definately gonna try and get out to Berlin.

Very excited to read this news Shane! Really looking forward to this one. As for this comment:
"cuz I take yonks to make stuff."
Thats silly! Most directors take much longer! and none give such variety: a one off drama 70min set in london, and poland about two boys falling in love with a waitress... and then a 5 day feature about an odd (but very funny) roadey called le donk!? and then a feature length film about a real man, who although his life is very brutal and violent. He is much more caring and nice than most people on this earth.
rest assured, we are happy fans!

Sounds excellent, I can't wait!
Would love to attend Berlin, you've just sweetened the deal with that announcement. I'll have to see what the budget fairies can do...
