Whaaaa?! Bloody finally, another video from moi! This is the first original thing i've uploaded since Twilight Harvest, so its been a while. But i got many things in the pipeline so its all good. So yes, finally another video done and dusted! This is a Music Video for a System Of A Down song called Vicinity Obscenity. It's from their Hypnotize album. If you've heard it you'll know it. If not, no worries. I had the idea for the video while listening ages ago. And after seeing that people had only done rubbish JPG montages for the song on youtube, i felt i should make my video for it! The video has very fast editing and a bit strobe-ey so be aware of that. Because of this the it doesn't look too great on youtube, so please watch it on shooting people's website if you can, because that'll have all the frames in it, and looks the best. But if it doesn't work just check out the youtube one. I shot this in an hour, in January, and have been editing (among other things) it since. Just got it completed. So yeah any feedback welcome! Enjoy! ;D Shooting People (recommended!): shootingpeople.org/watch/film.php?film_id=49804Youtube: uk.youtube.com/watch?v=4RwYgWravcg

Saw it on YouTube last night after noticing it in my updated subscriptions! The annoying thing about the video is that I will now no doubt visualise it whenever that track turns up on my MP3 player! But other than that, it was an edit extravaganza! I liked the speedy strobe edits towards the end. Was that individually construsted with miniscule clips, or is there some kind of cheat option? Knowing you I suspect it was the former! ;D

Thanks mate! Yes the former, constructed with tiny little 1 frame clips! I made nice patterns with them infact! ha ha. I was being really fussy about every 25th of a second as well. I remember towards the end of the song it'd take me about 15 mins to do about 3 seconds of the song! ha ha, cos i was being so funny about what frame should be where. And then most of them go and bugger off once uploaded to youtube! Looks superb on Shooting people though. I reckon that has all the frames. Tried uploading to google video but it looked like shit. Pixelated and all. What are the best settings for google vid? Just upload the full size file and let it compress it itself? Cheers for he comments anyway Dave!

What's so good about this Shooting People that it's worth paying £30 a year for?
Google video is a pain. It is good because it has no duration limit for videos, but all videos are automatically expanded to the full size of the window. That's what makes them all so pixelated. In the size options, the viewer can choose to watch the original size, and this looks quite nice... but who bothers with that? No one!

Nice one ryd, some great editing there and great idea. If I had one criticism I'd say you should spend a bit of time on production design and take out all the distractions in the background, like the printer and picture on the wall and stuff, I just think it look much better with out these in the background. A little setting up can add loads of production value. Like I say though, great video... you must have the patience of a saint.

That must've been a crack to shoot and a bitch to edit! The fun was infectious though, very entertaining!
I watched the shooting people version and, like Dave above, was also wondering if you'd recommend signing up to that site? Pros and cons? Worth £30?

I'd get a slightly better taste in music.

Sign up for an account without paying, wait a couple of months and you get promo emails through. I paid a tenner for my subscription. I dunno if its worth it or not to be honest, we'll see when I get better films up.

I'd get a slightly better taste in music. What a very boring and self-satisfied comment! Well done!

I'm amazing. ;D I mean, we can all point fingers at each others musical preferences, but there's no point is there. You really shouldn't jump to conclusions about people's tastes from one song as it may or may not be reflective of their tastes! I'm sure your comment was partially in jest anyway... but it was enough to annoy me.... haha

It's not goth, though. It's System of a Down. Who are kind of what Rage Against the Machine fans cling to, these days. Except the fans are a bit too defensive for their own good, sometimes.
I've got nowt against the band. I just became aware of them when Chop Suey was played every 4 minutes, so we got off on the wrong foot.
