This may be too awkward to organise, but I was thinking of a few things with regards another commentary track for the film.
Some of you may have heard of a few websites that record their own DVD commentaries and then offer them as audio downloads. You then watch the DVD and listen to the audio file at the same time (starting them both at the same time of course).
So, I had a couple of ideas with regards to this.
1) Cast commentary... we have a couple of regular cast members that frequent the message boards, namely Kezz and Gadge. Wouldn't it be great to get them (along with any other cast members they can muster) to record their own commentary track as an audio file. I'm sure they have some quality anecdotes of their time on the film!
2) Patchwork commentary ..... This idea is a bit odd and probably wouldn't be all that good. The idea would be that the running time of any of Shane's films is divided up into 5 minute chunks and each chunk is allocated to a willing participant. Each person does their own audio recording while watching their 5 minutes of the film (dictated by the DVD time code) in which they can talk about the film, the scenes, etc. Then everyone who recorded their 5 minutes, sends me their audio file and I compile them into one feature length audio file.
Thoughts? ;D

I'd rather we dragged in people who remember the 80s who give it the, "I remember when" treatment.
Could just turn out to be shite, mind.

They're extras, if they're shit, it's a bonus.

Sounds great! I'd happily be involved. And would be very interested to hear a cast commentary.

Hoorah! A bit of interest... I thought the thread (and the idea) had died!
I am happy to do it and I have no fear about making something that turns out to be shite... it's the effort and good intent that counts! haha.
As a rough example, if This Is England is 100 minutes long (it is about that on DVD), then 100 divided into minute chunks gives us 20 segments... meaning we only need 20 people to get involved.... maybe less because the end credits probably take up a few minutes.
I think that I should create the official division of the film into 5 minute chunks, and then let people claim which bits they want to have (first post to claim a segment gets it). I'll list the start and end time code of each segment so that people can check which bit they should claim to get the bit of the film they want.
I agree with Salvador, that it will be interesting to hear all the different voices from the forum, and their different take on things. It's not likely to be that enlightening with regards to the actual film, but will be enlightening with regards to us lot!
Is 5 minutes too long per person? I think it will be okay. I don't see that people will have to continually commentate on what is happening in the film, they can also inject there own anecdotes about going to see the film, how they got into Shane's films, this website.. etc, etc.

Five minutes is fine Dave, I think it'll be a laugh... like Paris J'taime, some segments will be better than others! Mon the regulars... get on board!

Are the five minutes assigned to people or do you do the lot and then clip it all together in a patchwork highlights reel?
I'd give it a gan, like. Despite my shitty mp3 player's mic. Makes me sound like the Yorkshire Ripper Hoaxer.

Sounds like Dave wants it you'd decide the 5 min section you want, and first to say they want it gets it! You're idea could work though. It'd just mean Dave's have to deal with bigger longer MP3s! And it'd be more work on his part! I suppose you want all the files to be MP3s then Dave?

And it'd be more work on his part! I suppose you want all the files to be MP3s then Dave? Yes.. definitely going for the 5 minutes each business and not a full commentary each (later edited) for the whole film! One of the main reasons would be because it is unlikely many people would want to sit around recording themselves for 100 minutes! Only doing the 5 minute recordings will mean more people will be happy to get involved. MP3 will be easiest.. and small file sizes because it would be best to email them to me. You only need to record in mono for starters as it is just voice recording. Doesn't really matter if people can't do MP3, I'm pretty sure I can convert anything. I think alot of people have the ability to record their voice and put it on their computer, but have forgotten about it.... ie they can record on their swanky mobile phones.. or their portable MP3 player. I think I may get my This Is England DVD out and divide it up into 5 minute chunks in preparation. Might as well get on with it whether it's a good idea or not I reckon! ;D
