Here's the newest one. 4 minutes of dolly madness. Got to try out my new set of Lowel lights (one lasted 2 minutes...) and the led ringlight wot i built (it's lighting the inside of the car) and if you look carefully i managed to sneak in a little hitchcockian touch with the Dolly in, Zoom out. Shot on HDV. Downconverted and edited in DV with a light grade. The timelapse I shot years ago for something else which never materialised but chucked in for production value... It's on it's way to channel U so I'll never see it broadcast. (Story of my life really!) uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7pw-X8Sk38o

Great video.... not my kind of music (which is irrelevant, so I'll shut up). If you have an HD cam and then capture the footage in real time as SD, do you think you still get a discernible image improvement? I thinking more along the lines of domestic cams though. When you capture SD from a domestic cam, it looks amateurish. Would capturing HD footage as SD make it look more pro do you think?

I think the video has some really good shots in there, and there is definately a few places where it looks very professional. I think its a bit like the song in some ways, its a really good effort buts its brought down in a few places. I think the shots of the guy rapping to his mate on a park bench and some of the composition shots with half of some guys face really jar when cut between some of the really nice tracking shots. It literally switches between a very respectable and professional effort to a bit of a DIY job. I dont mean that to sound overly critical, and you should be really pleased with the video, but like the song, it has some really good bits but it does have a couple of egg'ers.
I dont mind a bit of UK rap to be honest, and I dont think that lives up to the bar set by what is out there at the moment. There is a good vibe about the song, and i think you have caught that well with the video.

Would capturing HD footage as SD make it look more pro do you think? You definitely get the benefit of shooting in HD and the Sony's built-in downconverter is pretty good. You do get fine artefact's in the areas of detail like tree branches etc. It just depends whose looking! But honestly, If you want a pro look then it comes down to lighting, If you can control your light then you'll get the benefits. Keep it real was shot on a 3 chip HDV and Ooh Daddy on a 1 chip HDV. Ooh Daddy benefits from the lighting rig. I knew we couldn't afford Arri's or even 2 boxes of Redhead's so we begged a stage lighting rig - nowhere near the control i would have liked but it meant that we moved a lot faster as most of the lighting tweaks were gross adjustments. Keep it Real was back to Chinese lanterns with 100 to 250 watt bulbs and for the living room a 3 Head Lowel kit. Until i've had more of a chance to play with the Lowel kit i'd still say that for smallish rooms, adapted domestic lighting gives you a much better look on DV / HDV as the tones are warmer.
