Hey Chewbaxter, I would never say it was a nerdy hobby at all.... it's better than something like football supporting for starters!
I'm just saying that 'twitching' is the preserve of dirty minded perverts with nothing but 'tits' and 'lap-wings' on their minds. ;D

Hey Chewbaxter, I would never say it was a nerdy hobby at all.... it's better than something like football supporting for starters! I'm just saying that 'twitching' is the preserve of dirty minded perverts with nothing but 'tits' and 'lap-wings' on their minds. ;D Oh aye... especially 'tits' comments... endless supply of 'double entendré stuff there... here, is there such a thing as a 'single entendré'? 'Twitcher' though always makes me think of the 'Dawn Of The Dead' remake... referring to a zombie that's... well, fooked and can't get up but twitching... I'm not doing that, it'll scare the birds away! Or even worse... it could refer to Jack Douglas style antics... "Whurhey - give over" - here, did he have tourettes or summat? Anyhow - the BIG question to get everyone fawning over this thread regards Shane does the Lad Himself 'twitch' or 'spot' at all... because if he does... well, they'll all be joining in here... and I'll not look as big a lapwing as I thought! N. P.S. I meant 'tit'.

My dad's got loads of videos from other breeders. They're the most boring documentative stuff you can imagine but occasionally I let out a giggle when 'tits' and 'shag' got a mention. Especially if quickfire succession.

My dad's got loads of videos from other breeders. They're the most boring documentative stuff you can imagine but occasionally I let out a giggle when 'tits' and 'shag' got a mention. Especially if quickfire succession. Now that's only to be applauded - that's why we all like 'The Two Ronnies' so much... the English language was specifically designed for us to do the old 'oo-er missus' trick... "I was out this morning and saw a couple of Great Crested Grebes... I had my eye on a pair of tits too - oh, and I might have had a Shag... but I didn't get a good enough look, so I can't be certain!"Plus of course the suspicious looks one gets when saying "I'm off out looking at birds with me binoculars!" - certainly, it can conjur up images of farce that could easily be sub-standard 'On The Buses' material. The trouble is... not a all Birdwatchers LOOK like Birdwatchers... no roundy glasses, tweedy hats (like Indy's dad had on in 'the last crusade'), binoculars now being more compact don't have that 'comical effect' now (nor do they make one's eyes look MASSIVE when viewed from the 'big end'). It's also a shame that the 'bright red kagoule' isn't practical - it can scare off the birds (due to excessive rustling as well as the colouration) - as can tartan flasks (colourwise that is - they don't rustle as far as I know) - so again, the stereotypical image that's much the cause of hilarity may just not be there. Now I can't speak about trainspotting... don't know if the gear worn would scare off the trains... so I can't comment... At least not at this stage... if the birds all sign a petition for me to stop gawping at 'em, I may be forced to 'get into' that instead - Let's hope it won't come to that though! N.

I don't train spot, sadly. More about just liking the history behind railways and the architecture of the stations. Heck, I even love the ambience of a good station.
Wait, did I just apologise for not trainspotting? Good Lord.

Forget all this... you should all follow the wise teachings of the King of all hobbies, Simon Quinlank and take part in some 'Train Ignoring'... or my favourite, collecting vicar's arse rubbings!
Kevin Eldon is a genius.... there is no question.

Excellent stuff Dave - I didn't realise there were so many hobbies out there! I'll have to get a flask of 'weak lemon drink' too - I've been missing out there! N. P.S. Also check out this great spoof taken from the excellent 'Look Around You' BBC2 series. Birds Of Britain

That Look Around You clip is indeed a quality item! Out of all the fun in that film, it's the line: "dirty bird" that always cracks me up the most.
Simon Quinlank has another hobby which you may find quite distressing!

Look, can I finally say that I think birdwatching is a fine pastime despite how my cheeky comments may have appeared.
Goldfinches! Pah! I saw a seagull eating out the chest of a dead pigeon the other day! Fact!

I saw a seagull eating out the chest of a dead pigeon the other day! Fact! Here... Now... I hope you're not one of these 'Snuff Birdwatchers' Dave? I've heard about you lot... the rest of us happy with 'cheap' thrills (poor... very poor) watching our feathered friends twittering in trees... or feeding the ducky-wucks on the parky-wark (Christ - he thinks he's Russel Brand now!) - but scenes of death, and mutilation... Mind you - it's all nature eh? Not something I'd particularly want to watch though... especially not when eating my tea! Now dinnertime - that's another matter! N.

Nice one! News from me... a Song Thrush came into our garden... first time I've seen one there, so I'm happy - and why not - enjoy looking at birds and it ain't expensive to supply them with food, so great stuff! N.
