This contains NO spoilers......
So I went to see Somers Town today, before the screening meeting Tomo and his Dad Rob and also the man himself, Mr. Meadows.... really great and nice of them to chat with me at what was such a busy time.
The film came on and I watched. I laughed a lot and I felt my heart warm. This film is very very good. The black and white photography looks great. The characters are excellent, the actors brilliant. Perry Benson is great, really funny. The chemistry between Tomo and Marek is amazing, they really click and you can tell some of the dialogue is improvised but it works because you really believe these two are friends and they are having fun. Tomo shows a lot of maturity as a character similar in someways to Sean but also very different in others. Nice to see Kate Dickie in there too, a great Scottish actor. Ireneusz Czop as Marek's dad is phenomenal, powerful and tender. I love the script, the little intricacies in it. The social comment without ramming it down your throat. The shots are great, similar in style possibly to This is England but really showing a director who is developing and perfecting his style. Gavin Clark's soundtrack deserves a mention, its brilliant. Shane said at his Q&A that Universal are going to release it! Thats brilliant.
This film will truly not disappoint.

Went to see the film yesterday with salvador, and I loved it. There is definitely the right balance between social commentary and humour in Paul Fraser's script, I laughed a lot. The cast were brilliant too, they all really fitted together, they got the dynamics in the relationships just right.
All in all, a film that lives up to every expectation you have of one of Shane's films.

Hey guys. Well, I just got back from watching this...
No spoilers - but I have to say that this is a heart-warming film, with a wonderful script and genuinely superb performances from all involved (Perry Benson is a class act).
Paul Fraser's screenplay shines through wonderfully, and Piotr (sic?) is great, especially talking in a language that is not his native tongue. Tomo, it has to be said, has talent beyond his years. I believe we're seeing the development of a fine young actor in Tomo and this film picks up on his natural sense of humour.
The soundtrack is great, and it really added to the homegrown feel of the movie.
Somers Town is a wonderful, small film, beating with heart and natural warmth. It's great to see that even after all these years and films, Shane is still finding new places to go as a director. There is a natural ease to the film that quietly shows there is more to Shane, Paul and Tomo than we've seen before. And as a film that could have been just a PR stunt, it actually shows great love and respect to the community that sits amongst the busy train terminals. This felt like a more continental kind of film, and yet the style was really drawn from the performances. That's testimony to the triple effect of a great script, smart acting and very good direction.
Rob, Tomo, Neil and Keri, it's always a pleasure to see you guys, and Amy, good to see you there too.
Well done to all involved.
Tom.

Just back from Edinburgh where I saw Somers Town. I had decided not to read any synopsis so as to be totally blind to what was coming. I was amazed! I did not expect to laugh so much and also be heart hurting at the same time. LOVED IT. Want to see it again. Now!

Nice one bud! Was great to see you at the screening, sorry we didn't have more time to catch up No worries Shane, it was really great to meet you! I saw Somers Town again yesterday (Thanks Rob) and I enjoyed it even more second time round. There was so much I missed or overlooked. Piotr and his dad are astounding together, as are Piotr and tomo.... This is a seriously good film! If you need to take a plane or a train to see it, I would.

I have to say that the scene between Marek and his dad was electric. The tension. Every single moment was lived. I loved this scene. Can you tell? I will look out for these actors again. An altogether great script though the end for me was unrealistic bearing in mind what had been said.

That Lasowski lass looks quite nice, from a distance. And, presumably, close up.

So a few things i didnt fit in the other thread: fantastic framing! Shane said the cinematrographer was Natalie... something *checks IMDB* slightly right: Natasha Braier her name is, great job! Also fantastic soundtrack from Gavin, was a pleasure to see him and his band perform live. It was awesome! Are the tracks going to be on the new album?! Basically: my favourite Meadows film so far. Simple as.
