it was me that mentioned the bacon butty, me!! <waves frantically>
i think the reason it stuck in my mind was that a mate had come straight to the cinema from work without any tea and was fucking starving when he turned up, so when tomo walked out of the cafe and left it behind he was almost in tears at the thought....

.. thought the ending was filmed beautifully. Really enjoyed the film. A nice slice of Somers Town life, I thought.

Great film - from the trailer and the knowledge that it wasn't as personal or rather "autobiographical" as the other films, I wasn't sure I'd like it. But I did, really enjoyed it. It feels like a really light film in tone, though there were moments of darkness. The thing that came through the most was the trademark authenticity.
The biggest laughs at the cinema when I saw it came during the "I really need a poo" scene.
Also, the scene where Marek walks in on Tomo "bettering himself" - I was laughing for a minute or two before he opened the door there, as I knew what was coming (so to speak).

I've just been to see Somers Town and thought it was a great film. I was already a big fan of Meadow's work and this film has really cemented that.
Somers Town is the area I was raised in/around and this film has taken me right back to my mis-spent youth there. I'm only 24 now but this film has evoked memories in me that had long been forgotten.
The garages we'd have bike races through (before the fences went up!), getting chased through the alleyway (where Tommo got battered!) and getting my lunch everyday in the Cafe, though I must say there was no waitress like Maria when I went there.
hahaha....My mum even worked in the laundrette : ) and I had to do the services washes!
Watching Tommo & Marek form a soppy teenage crush on the beautful french waitress is not to dissimilar to me and my mates falling head over heels for an older girl from the area and having the best day of our lives when she gave us all a kiss when we scraped together a fiver for a box of Roses for her.
I also happen to be a northern lad (Liverpool) who moved to London and made my friendships in the 6 week periods when there was no school and all we had to do all day was spit off the balconys of the flats and play football.
So thanks Shane, you've brought back alot of sentimental memories.
Ps: And as it turns out, i've now fallen in love with a french girl from Paris and I'm moving there in 2 weeks! Isn't life strange!!

I always found that line funny too. Shame no one else in the cinema did... I felt rather immature! Ha ha. Bloody cambridge toffs don't enjoy a good in-your-end-o.

pointblank - off-topic and rude of me to jump in with this question - but you're Tom's Dad I realise and on the IMDb are you a member there as eggo? I believed it was your good self but some pillock was insisting that it wasn't you so I just wanted to clear that one up.
I know there's a lot of daft people who post on the IMDb but its got a lot of good people posting too.
Jo, some people find double entendres amusing, others think its very childish and pathetic I think. Someone was saying to me they get sucked into Coronation St and I said I didn't find it had very good sucking powers for me. I am so pathetic I find the word sucking amusing. There's vans around that I've seen that mention 'rodding' too, drains clearance firms, but there's one called 'Rodders' I've seen. Don't know if its still going. For me, that is funnier than the Marx Brothers. Pitiful maybe.
