Well I have finally got around to editing Le Donk again after a very long break. Somers Town kinda took on a life of it's own and what with King of the Gypsies finally getting underway, It had taken a back seat.
But after we had to cancel the latest writing trip due to some twerp in the USA claiming they own the KOTG idea, the ensuing Legal wranglings have offered up a timely slot for me to try and nail Donk before we set sail on the good King Gypsies (Or Prince of the Travelling folk as It may have to be called if Donald Trump get's his way!).
In the last two weeks, it has made some great headway and is settling down at a nice 75 mins in length. Midweek, I had a secret screening with Stephen Graham (Combo) Hannah Graham (Shoe-shop Lady) and Thomas Thurgoose, so that I could see if anyone else besides me and Paddy would find it amusing. Although the cut was rough and unmixed, it went down great and gave me a rayt good boost to try and get it finished.
It looks like it will be in full colour as it suits the docu' feel and will be finished using Final Cut studio (where possible), so it ain't gonna be no Bourne Ultimatum in the looks dept, But it has a raw charm and will hopefully inspire others to get their camcorders out and make a feature themselves.
We are as yet unsure as to where it will open. But it is Defo going to be coming out on DVD with Two other shorts that I shot last year (My supposed year off, where I made two features and two half hour documentaries!). One will be the Gavin Clarke docco 'The 8th Vein' and the other will be my travelog of my journey out to Thailand with my dad to see my Grandad before he passed away.
All of that together with tons of deleted scenes from Donk should make it a great package when it hit's the shelves. If all goes according to plan, Smalltime, Somers Town and Le Donk could be out on DVD by Xmas.
Peace of cake,
Shandy.
