In this months ''The Word'' magazine (October 2007 edition) he praises Shane through the roof. Here's a little snippet of his commendments:
''In an artform where the word maverick is as abused as the word iconic, Meadows really is his own man. He doesn't have the Guardianista cachet or the uncomplicated politics of a Ken Loach, he doesn't have the cosy reassurance of a Richard Curtis or the risible glibness of a Guy Ritchie. He is, however, WORTH ALL OF THEM PUT TOGETHER.''
''SHANE MEADOWS IS THE BEST FILM-MAKER WE'VE PRODUCED IN DECADES''

Good old Maconie.... have you seen him interviewing Shane about Dead Man's Shoes? The link is in the MEDIA section.
Around about the time of 24/7's release, there was a late night ITV programme called "Collins and Maconie's Movie Club"... That's Andrew Collins and Stuart Maconie. Anyway, I had been seeing clips of 24/7 on TV and really needed to see it. Didn't have a clue who Shane Meadows was at the time, but on the 'Movie Club' they reviewed the latest VHS releases, and Smalltime was on there! It was obviously released to coincide with 24/7 in the cinema. Collins and Maconie were praising it up and showed a couple of clips. I couldn't believe my luck... from the same director as the film that I wanted to see, and the clips looked absolutely brilliant! I went and bought the VHS a few days later.

They made it movie of the year...and sent Shane a handmade trophy. He sent them back a couple of polaroids of him wearing it on his bonce.
