Hey Guys I couldnt resist giving you a look at the trailer for Soldier Boy. Filming wrapped yesterday and I couldnt have asked for more for my first big film. The cast and crew were fantastic. This is just the trailer, we now have a lot of work to do with the edit of the film but we are hoping to complete along with the soundtrack to the film in a month ready for festival. When the film is complete it will not be online as per festival rules but the forum faithful will be able to see it for one week as per Salv's abbeyhill. looking good man, the performances looked really strong and thats the important part, I hate people talking directly into camera, even in music videos, but the fact that your lead actor pulled it off defiantly says something about his ability.
I'm sure I remember you saying you shot on Z1's?? what was it shot on, is that the images graded or the in-camera settings?
look forward to seeing the finished film

what can i say, that looks fantastic, the performances in the trailer are very realistic, i hope you've managed to keep it up throughout, on a technical note some of the scenes looked a little too dark, i get that this is probably your intention as it looks a dark film, in a dark way i mean not because it's night time or in a dark place but because it's erm.... dark! the little girl seems to be looking around at the crew a lot, i hope this isn't present throughout as it could prove a little distracting. i really was impressed though matey and i can honestly say i was hooked, can't wait to see the finished article, it looks a million miles from your other stuff. very shane meadowsy but in a good way, not that there's a bad way! thumbs up oh one other thing, i hope you have shot it in wide screen because it looked a little square!

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay stronger than anything you've done previously. Well done.
Definitely get the colour correction right and I'm sure you'll be onto a winner. Having read an early draft of the script, I have to say, it's accelerated on a lot and has promise to be something very, very good.
I look forward to seeing the end film. Well done - now the sprint becomes a marathon as you focus on getting it cut together.
Top work.

As much as I hate the phrase 'you don't know what it's like', it's nice to see this coming to fruition. It's definitely one of your stronger efforts - as far as I've seen.

Looks brilliant!
Not sure if you've mentioned before, but does this film reflect something that has effected your own life... or you have witnessed?
I heard a great podcast documentary about this kind of thing about a year ago. About the hidden impact that active duty has on those that return to civilian life and is not really addressed by the military.
Agree with the comments that it was a bit 'Meadowsian'... but that can only be a compliment! Was that the This Is England score on that trailer?
Also.. what was that mic you bought a while ago... you found a cool site with a reasonably priced bit of kit... and going by that trailer it works rather well!

Looks great mate, really impressed, the performances look very strong. I think it does need something done about the colour as that will up the production value.
Cannot wait to see the finished thing.

Thanks for all the positive comments ;D as I have worked my arse off on this film and I'm glad to see that people are seeing the step up I've made. As for all the technical and colour questions, these should all be sorted out in post production I only put the trailer together and my editing skills are not good enough to edit this film, i did play around with the colour but then I'm no expert on editing so its time to hand the film over when I have put a rough cut together for the magic to happen and it all to be sorted out The film was shot on a Sony PD170 and VX2100 and shot in widescreen, again in my editing balls up why it doesnt look widescreen I'm not sure I think its whatever I fiddled with lol. The actors were phenomenal which no doubt you will see and have already asked about working together again. The buzz around this film has been amazing, where I live the local towns are all talking about this new film film maker which is crazy. I knew I had a special film and to see it come from paper to life was an amazing experience. We hope to have the edit done in the next month ready to go to festival, we also need it soundtracking. I have cut a deal with a band where they will work on the soundtrack and in return they can use some of the footage in there music video for there new release on there new album. I also have a composer scoring some of the subtle stuff throughout the film. So I'll keep you posted with the news
